Found 3gr half of a silver ring before the sun came up on the beach, hunted hard for the other half (didn't find it) and a few coins, the beach is being absolutely hammered all day and night by others. Anyway, I went to a different old beach and from the parking area could see where there once was a sandbar, is now a deep dark area. The water was crystal clear and the rising sun plainly made several things obvious to me. The salmon boats were close to shore, and with the off shore wind, I knew it was gonna be brutal cold. I went in with just my swim suit on, wade out about pill deep, and then quickly submerge up to my neck to get accustomed to the water. Got out into that deep trough and hit this 417 in neck deep water and it was still a foot deep in the sand. Hunted some more and then went home to warm up. I was pretty hypothermic and drove home with the heater going full bore. Ring is stamped "417 E" but it is not electroplated, we all pretty much know electroplate rings by now eh boys? That may be some other mark?. 3gr. AtPro slightly pos buoyancy make it a wonderful water hunter.

Congrats Mud...atleast someone is finding a little something. That must have been fun trying to retrieve that target in that deep of water. I swear there is a sign somewhere on the beach that says "No Jewelry or Coins allowed on the beach" :lmfao: Worst year metal detecting to date. Primarily been a beach and water hunter, considering switching over to land hunting and going after older coins....

Nice ring!! I can't imagine being in cold water in July. The lakes here are getting close to hot tub temps. Get a wesuit or some waders and get back at it!!

Way to go, Mud! That looks like a nice ring!! You're a hardy soul, out there sand fishin' in that chilly water!

Thanks guys, I tell ya, Diggin-it is not kidding, there would be 10,000 people on the beach, and its hard to find a scrap of foil the next morning. I can sit here and watch the beach cam and see detectorists working the water and the sand all day long and into the night. So I though my only chance for gold older drops is to find somewhere the majority of them cant or wont go, which is deep and cold! Besides that, theres very few days on the Big Lake when its calm enough to work those areas. I wore my wetsuit today and went back in that spot, found one gray dime I missed. I filed and acid tested this ring since the "E" was bugging me and it passes the 10k acid test just find. The Big Lake will be nice and warm in Sept, since its so deep and big it takes that long to heat it up, so I hope maybe theres a big blow to plow out some sand in late Aug, or we are just wasting time hunting for very fresh drops in a huge area...its more of a race and an endurance game as well as finding a parking spot can be a challenge.
