this is the email the fairgrounds sent back to me...

Thank you for your inquiry about metal detecting at the Gold Country Fairgrounds. We are part of the California Department of Food and Agriculture, and therefore a state agency. We currently do not have a policy which allows for metal detecting on the fairgrounds, as all

I would call or talk to the caretaker. Show him or her this letter. see what they say. Plus make a copy of this letter and keep it with you . They didn't say no!!! just didn't yes in so many words

Good Luck

Jeff

Way to go!! My brother and I have been trying to get premission to hunt the local fairgrounds for over 25 years, no luck. The fair has been held in the same area for over 60 years. The area where they have all the games is and has always been dirt. I can only imagine.

Take the letter with you and check in with the caretaker. Detect away with a 12" screwdriver/probe if it's an arid area or a small digger if it's damp. Show him your best recovery technique(sp) and turn in anything other than coins to the lost and found. After whatever their lapse of time is, you'll get it all back. Make sure he signs a note of the description of what you turn and demand an personal identification for anything they say was returned to the owner or kept by the state after the perscibed time so that it doen'nt end up in somebodys undeserved pocket.

Good hunting!!!!
