Got a great accessory for my AT Pro!

I'm pretty excited about this new toy! One of the biggest reasons I bought my AT Pro was because it was waterproof and through word of mouth and research, I keep finding sites on rivers and creeks that need detecting. My problem has been one of ACCESS! Here in Texas almost all land is private, and what isnt' private has the typical restrictions on anything that 'may be of historical significance'..grumble, grumble..if you can't get permission to cross the land you just sit around frustrated about all the cool stuff you can't even look for. Well no more. I re-routed the funds I was saving for an AT Gold and bought a used Old Town Camper 16 canoe for a screamin' deal! I'm pretty stoked about it. Now if I can just figure out which place I want to hit first... :bouncy:

Man! That's the ticket  Yep, these things need to be near the water...I've been eyeballing a few spots meself...one is supposed to be a "public" beach, but theres no parking at the end of the road and all the homeowners treat it as their little private beach..I'll approach from the water at dawn and raid it good!

That scenario is EXACTLY what I'm talking about! Plus it adds a little fun to the adventure, which I'm all about in the first place!

Yep Going to pick me up a nice Kayak for just that reason as well

must admitte to same idea,s floating in my head lol

Well, no worries about getting caught. I don't hunt areas that are off-limits anyway. The places like river crossings will be fine as long as I don't walk past the high water mark. The beach scenario mentioned earlier is similar-you just don't get onto dry land.

Well I've had some big changes. No more corporate desk job with lots of free time! I like to joke that my new boss is a real slave driver! Working for myself is rewarding, challenging, SCARY, and always busy!

I ordered a kayak last month- should get it this month. Already bought a Lowrance Elite X-5 Sonar unit with Down Imaging Scan to "see" the surface of the bottom under the boat. I have also rigged two old deep-sea fishing rods with 2.7mm nylon cord and rare earth magnets for retrieving deep relics. Got a snorkel and mask for shallows and my Garrett waterproof headphones and sand scoop arrived last week. And of course the AT-Pro is ready to go. Good luck everyone and be safe. HH. Matt

The good thing here in Cyprus is that all beaches are public and the bad thing is that the use of any kind of detector is strongly prohibited anywhere exept all beaches.
And the reason:

Matt, I like that plan! One area I want to hit has the potential for many old iron relics. A few years back a person found a cannonball in that very place! Only the locals can access it due to the large tracts of land fronting the river. I could find the owners and ask, which is my normal method, but now I can double my fun by making an expedition of it!

Malarios, that's a bummer for you. Here in the States we have some sites that we certainly can't detect as well! We also have a PITA law known as ARPA that more or less says any potential archaeological site cannot be disturbed. Sad thing is, the only people with time, money, or INCLINATION to explore those places are the very ones they want to keep out! So whatever is there will rot away, lost to history forever! Or somebody will rescue some relic and save it from oblivion without reporting it. That's apparently happening more and more if you follow archaeological news. Imagine what could be accomplished through cooperation...

Opening up lots of new sites is an exciting prospect, and it's always fun to get out on the water! Wish we had more around here, heh. But then, I have the Gila NF and quite a few old mining camps and towns and trails to explore, so I can't complain. I really love getting up in the hills for a peaceful day of hiking and detecting. There are a couple of private land-locked ghost towns on BLM land that I'd like to get to, maybe a helicopter or ultralight is in order!

I get upset because here everywhere you turn your head you see potential places for detecting but unfortunately loosen restrictions means no restrictions and then out history will be all sold on eBay.
