Got a Goldquest V2 coming

therover

Well-known member
I have a used, in like new condition Goldquest V2 coming soon. Can't wait to hit the beaches with it. I have been reading lots of the posts and tips on the machine. I plan on digging every target for the next 2-3months and use this unit exclusively to learn it. Naturally I will bring other units with me in case there are tons of nails/iron or if I want to hit the dry sand. Overall, 90% of my detecting is in the wet sand/suds, and I know the unit is not water proof.

I do have a question to all that have one....do you put anything over the unit ( plastic baggie, etc.) when using it on the salt water beaches. The unit I am getting is from Ralphiejc ( THANKS RALPH !) and it's shaft mounted. I am just wondering if I can use it as is and wipe it down after use, or does it need to be protected more. I will NOT be near the water where a wave can splash it. The shaft will be tethered to me so I won't drop the unit in the sand.

Thanks and hopefully I will post some good finds. If this unit ends up being as good as everyone says, then I know what is going to happen next...I will end up getting the Aquasearch so my mind will be at ease. I wanted a used unit at first so I can learn it and see if I really like it prior to spending the money on a new Aqua.

JC,

Congratulations on your purchase of an excellent beach machine. You can also hunt gold nuggets with it.
I have the original Goldquest SS.....still use it today and it's running like it was new.

I think you will find that the housing is very weather proof...even from sand and spray.
There is an o-ring that is part of the lid. All control pots and cable glands will reliably keep out just about everything.

Do give it a good wipe down with a damp cloth after any beach work and it will give you many years of good service.
Putting a plastic bag over it certainly won't do any harm but I think you will find that it's not needed.

In time, you will develop an ear for many iron targets....bottle caps will give a large "area signature" relative to it's size.
Many elongated iron targets will double blip when the coil is swept along it's length but give a signal blip when swept at 90

I will be digging all targets to begin with, and will definitely bury a small ring I have a experiement with the settings. Glad to know the unit is pretty sturdy and weaterproof. I see where small washers have to be dug...shoot, I dig them with my VLF machines since lots of them sound really good.

All in all, I think I will be very happy with the unit. Can't wait until it gets here.

Hopefully in the coming months I can post some pics of the good targets I get.
