Got a Fisher 1280x yesterday

Pete in MI

New member
and looking forward to getting it in the water. I'm in Lansing, Michigan and have been detecting on and off since the 70s. My other two detectors are green machines (Garrett) and their value dropped so much I can't sell them and get a fair price.

Had one of those Whites Beach Hunter II units but just couldn't use it - we had a flood that year and with the ecoli in the water I traded it for one of the Garretts.

Anyway, have been wanting a 1280x for some time and found one with the hard case and though made in 1993 has had under 3 hours of use. I belong to the South West Michigan Seek & Search Club (Plainwell, MI).

As soon as my house sells will be leaving Lansing and heading 'up north'.

I have a beach scoop (wire mess basket) that I know isn't good for in the water and with the cost of stainless steel scoops around $130 I'm working on building (at least for temprary use) a 6" PVC scoop. (Made a 4 inch one and it turned out fairly well but thing a 6 inch mouth on it will make recovery even quicker.

Any place sell scoops for less than $130 and are reliable - handle won't break off/back cup won't crush? Let me know.

I think I am going to love this 1280x even more than either of the green machines - and they have been great to me on land.

first waterhunter i ever met had one.............soon after our meeting in bought excaliber and have used it for over 15years now.............i love it

but deep down i still want 1280..............i think i will buy a new detetor pro wader, i hear it is a 1280 reboxed - upgraded, e t c............everything is in the headphones

1280 is a killer gold ring machine ................maybe soon i will have one for a backup.

keep us posted on your finds

S P E N D THE EXTRA MONEY AND GET A GOOD SCOOP, U WILL NEED IT - it is called peace of mind.

until I can afford the expensive one. This probably cost me $35 at most to make and I have lots of PVC left over to make more :):

6 inch PVC pipe with a cap for the back side. The cap was cut the way I wanted it to provide extra support where the handle goes into it and at the bottom.

5/8 inch drain holes. Used a Dremel tool to put an edge on the front so it will enter the sand easier. Might put a short rope on it to keep it from being lost if dropped. I think it (wood handle) would float so don't want it floating away or if not - sinking. Not really heavy either.

Had hamburgers after the project was done on the same 'workbench'.

don't remember what city you're in though - thinking maybe Jackson?

I'm from Jackson. Lots of stuff to find around here, except lately, I haven't been able to find squat in the water. On land is another thing.

You've got a good detector there. Hope you find a lot of goodies with it.
