Got a few questions for you Garrett Guru's!

I just got a friend into detecting and he really likes my Sunray X-1 Probe that I have for my Explorer XS. He wants to buy one before the 4th of July since he is going back to his home town and wants to check out some older sites that he knows of. He was looking at a Vibra Probe in one of my Kellyco Products Catalog and was thinking about buying one. I do believe that Sunray makes a Probe for the Ace 250 so I would like some user feedback if possible. Does anyone using a Garrett Ace 250 use a Vibra Probe and how well does it work? Does it get good Depth and can it tell the difference between Iron and a Conductive Target? He is very pumped since I helped him find his very first Indian Head Penny and 2 Wheat Pennies. Also, I must say congrats to Garrett for such a great machine for a low price and exceptional depth. Thanks for your comments and Good Luck and HH.

Go to the top of the page and click on the Sun Ray Invader field test and read my test on the Sun Ray equipped 250. The Vibra Probe ain't even in the same ball park. You can actually detect with the Sun Ray and if you know what to do you can get up to five inches in depth with it.

I use a Vibra Probe and I like it. I have never used a Sun Ray. It is about $80 cheaper (about $99). It is stand alone, another words, it isn't hooked to the detector like the other. Comes on a nice pouch and doesn't fall out like some of the ones that have a box type end. No switches, hold it up and it turns on, turns off after 1 minute of no usage. With a new battery, it will detect about 1 1/2 to 2 inches away. It pinpoints straight off the tip so you can really get the direction of the coin. the depth gets less as the battery gets depleted. For the money, I really like it. It is also built real sturdy.

Maybe not the deepest, but it still saves time. A plus for me is that I like to water-hunt and the 'vibra' is waterproof.

I once lost mine in a swimming hole in about 6' of water (one of the early units that doesn't float). Bad weather kept me away for 72 hrs but I went back and found it on the bottom with a diving mask. Except for dead batteries it was just fine and it's still helping me locate my targets today.

It's a tough one!

They are tough. And independent, not confined to the length of the cable. For me, why would I want another near detector hooked to mine? Looks like a bunch of extra added wait. The 250 gets me close enough and then the Vibra Probe zero's it in. Tough, waterproof, cost effective, completely mobile, what's not to like.

I also use the vibraprobe. Some people complain that the detecting range is too short. Well that's why I bought it. My eyesight is not that great. YOu should get within 2 or 3 inches with your main detector. If not you need more pratice. If I could afford it, I might get one of the sunrays and give it a try. I'm sure it is a quality product. But then - my 1500 is too heavy as it is.
awhistler, this kinda sounds like a repeat of what you said.

I have both, although the Sunray is mounted on my 1500 and not the 250. I really haven't used it but a few times and frankly, not that impressed with it. It's just that the Vibra-probe is so easy to use, no switches to remember to flip on and off (flip that Sunray on before you remove it from your shaft and the Dreaded Garrett GTI/GTA overload will blow your phones off)and adds no weight to your detector. Now, it won't tell me if my target is a penny or a quarter, just that it's metal, but I already knew what my target was before I began digging. The Vibraprobe only gets an inch of depth, but that's all I need to find a crusty penny in a pile of dirt.
Now to be fair to the Sunray, you can pinpoint with it, but you have to press the pinpoint button on your detector to do that. Tell him to get the VP and save some dough. I've had this one since '99 and it still works like a charm. Tough as nails and waterproof, too!! I've already got another one in case this one ever dies, but I doubt it will!!

I am sure Loran is going to be very happy with all the input I give him about the Vibra Probe and Sunray Probe. Thanks again Guys! Good Luck and HH.:detecting:

Used it for a season and found myself always wanting to go back to my probe. I guess I figured if it wasn't broke, don't fix it. A lot of dollars which I found other places for.

Never used Vibra Probe, but I use Sunray Probe with my GTI 2500 & it works great. Will likely get one for my wifes 250 eventually.

I already know all about that Pinpointer. You have to virtually touch the Item to get it too sound off. At least that is what I have heard. Not too get anyone upset or anything but I haven't personally used one so I really don't know exactly for sure. No hard feelings White's Bullseye Pinpointer User's! Good Luck and HH.
