Got A Few Keepers

Well got out for a bit! This morning started out sunny so I threw my stuff in the truck and took off to a spot that a friend and myself hit before but I wanted to see if it would give up any more! After about an hour of detecting I found this 1850 Large Cent and 1880 & 1893 Indian Heads and a 1906 Barber Dime! They were all about 7" down and in that soft black lomey dirt! You all know what I'm talking about that good dirt :) But there must be some kind of fertelizer in this soil as these coins I could tell before I cleaned them that they were ate up! So I will go back next time with the WOT and see if it will give up any more.

After None of them in really good shape but I'll take them none the less

Sure hate to see nice old coins like that in that condition, but you definitely can't complain about any of the finds. I would love to find a Large Cent but they are few and far between in my area. At least the Dime wasn't sitting in water or had any effects to the ground conditions. It is in great shape! Congrat's on those great finds and Good Luck next time you hit that spot. HH.

Yea I hate to see them in that condition also. But it's nice finding them though :) Last few times out I really hadn't found anything worth posting. So it feels good to be able to post something! Wore out or not :)

Good luck I hope you find you a large cent!!!!

as for those IH's - I've had them like that and used below treatment which yielded a nice lloking IH with a slight green patina.

I use toothbrush, baking soda and water. Make paste and scrub coin till patina comes off. keep rinsing and then more paste with toothbrush. It takes green crud right off with some pressure. You'll usually be left with a better looking coin.

But nice hunt either way! :)

WTG!
Keep it up!

Very nice Mike. At least you are finding stuff other than clad. I'm heading out for a bit this morning. Going to an old pounded school, but it is close to home and if I go slow you just never know....:) HH.
