Hooked up with Park Pirate and BRATNY this morning back at the same old park where I nailed coin #1000 yesterday. Not much luck at first with only a wheat cent to show for the first hour or so. Things got better when I crossed the road to a different section. First good find was the 1944-P war nickel. Then I dug something really neat. It was a metallic disc with the reverse impression of a Indian head cent. It doesn't seem soft like lead and has a better sound when dropped on the countertop. Not a thud like lead usually has. I'm happier with that than a real indian head cent. A while later I was surprised to dig the 1945 mercury dime. Didn't sound like silver until I dug down about 8 inches and stuck in the X-1 probe. It was off to the side of the hole. It's great being able to detect in December. Nights are getting colder but still looks good for the next week. Hopefully be able to get a few more before the ground freezes solid.

Great finds ED. I ended up getting side tracked and didn't make it back. But I did get out a little in the afternoon and scored a 1920 merc.

Great finds, Ed!

I am puzzled on that disk. VERY cool. Wonder if someone put that disk, and an Indian head, one on top of the other, and then smashed it somehow, leaving the imprint of the Injun? Surely, that's not a minting piece, could it be?
