Got permission tonight at an old farm site. Only had a little time before dark, but wanted to give it a try. Keepers were 2 wheats and a sterling army sharpshooters medal deep down under some roots. How cool is that! Anyone know when they started making this style? I tried to find it online but no luck on it's history?

Awesome find Mike!! I'd much rather find relic than coins, well...with the exception of gold coins!! Can't help you on the ID but it sure looks like it is in good shape!

and in great shape ! Someone in the military on one of the forums should direct you to it's history. Good diggin !! Steve i nso az

This style was issued in 1921, but is still used. I think it is WWII because it was deep under roots, and the 40S and 53D wheats were not too far from there.

Shows it to be a 'Sharpshooters' badge. It looked like WW II to me as I can recall an uncle who was in the army when I was a kid and his uniform bore one of those.
Great find Mike.

Thanks for looking. I had found last night that it was isued in 1921 and is still used today. I think you are right on the WWII because it was deep under roots, and some wheats were found not far away!
