Got a copy of my hospital bill today - $65,000. What a giant rip off.

That's something that I love about Australia. With our public hospital system, despite all it's faults, it wouldn't have cost you a cent. You may not have got the best surgeon, but you can pay for that if you want.

P.S. That's going to take a lot of clad Bill! Sounds like a good reason to hunt.:stars:

Luckily I have insurance, otherwise I'd have to get me a sign and stand on the corner. Course for that price I got one of the best surgeons there is. He saved my leg and he told me I came close to losing it so that's cheap for a leg.

Sometimes the surgeon's bill will come separately, and then the anesthesiologist's bill, and then maybe any independent lab's bills, and so on. They can nickel and dime you to death. Oh, yeah. Don't forget the diagnostic rigamarole, tests, docs, labs, and who. Medicare will pay them about 30% of the bills, your supplemental will coff up another dab, and most of the time everybody will be happy..... or at least resigned.

I'm glad you had insurance Bill. It saved a heap of grief.
When I got hurt at work a couple of years back, I got left high and dry. The lady I'm now working with (same company) suffered the same injury, and they stone walled her as well. She had a bit more leverage on them than I did, which worked out for her, as the specialists told her that if she was a few days later, then the resulting nerve damage, would have left her with an arm that doesn't work any more. I had to go through the public system, which took 6 weeks till I could see a specialists (not able to work at all through this period). 2.5 years on and still on the mend. Ended up losing half the strength in my right arm. Fortunately it's still improving and the neck is getting a bit stronger.
Just love employers who look after their staff. Tried to get help through the Union solicitor, but all he did was winge as to how hard it would be to fight the company. Sure wish I knew a descent one at the time as I would have nailed there hides to the out house door. They knew full well I was being straight with them, but they just love to be #%&*!*&%#@!

Look at it this way Bill, our dollar is worth only half what it was 6 months ago, wait another six months, the bill will be twice as high and the dollar will be worth nothing and the gas your wife used to come visit you will be $6.00 a gallon, this all bodes well for metal detecting, the price of batteries and gas will quickly eat up your worthless clad money you worked so hard to find, but don't let it get you down, your legs on the mend, now all you have to do is try and fiqure out how to feed yourselves!!!!!!!!:nopity::shrug::yikes:

Well of COURSE its a rip off. What would you expect in a country that puts dollars before
the health and well being of it's people. Just my opinion. Hope you have some kind of
supplimental coverage or you might have to pawn your metal detectors!

Yeah they can really screw you around and leave you high and dry. I bruised the nerves in the right side of my neck years ago and lost the use of my right arm for nine months. Just had to wait it out till the nerves healed.
