Got a chance to try the T-2 today

I had a quick chance to try a old farmstead I heard about, but it was well overgrown so it was hard to swing the coil plus from the looks of it the ground had been turned over years ago. I was hunting with another guy too and picking were slim. I notice a lot of small copper wire I was picking up where the house once stood that fooled me. I felt the T-2 ran very smooth with very little chatter at all with the sensitivity at 60 so I upped it to 80. I ran the 4 tones and actually ran the disc at 40 to begin with and lowered it to 0 so I could hear everything.
I didn't pick up a few pull tabs, one rusty can fooled me and notice the good targets seem to lock on well while trash item seem to jump around a bit. Got some shotgun shells and some higher power shell too.
I wound up with a 1942 Wheaties and a token for the 75th Enderlin,ND Centennial from 1966, by hunting partner didn't find anything.
I do have a problem that i will have to check out and wonder if anyone else notice this and believe Buckeye Brad mentioned this too. I had to reset my tones and sensitivity several times as they went back to default. I think it may be a bad battery connection and the springs need to be tighten. I also notice when using the pinpoint my battery gauge would drop one segment.
It was a good day for the T-2 as it performed good, but the operator need more time with it.

I am using Reg batteries yet and was planning on some rechargeable maybe later on.
Tried it tonight and seen if you shake the detector hard or when you set it down hard it will go back to factory preset. This act like a bad battery connection so I tightened the springs and it still does it,but not as bad. Going to try a different set of batteries and try to see if I can tighten the battery springs even more if I can.

My T2 does the same thing (resets settings). I think it happens when the coil is bumped. Battery consumption is high too.
I plan to send mine in to First Texas for service and get the update too. I still like the detector though.

Hmmm ... I didn't think of that. You may be right. The vibration may break the battery connection for a moment which turns the machine off and on and resets the settings. Maybe a piece of foam rubber between the batteries and the door would keep them in place?

I took a small flat blade screwdriver and twisted it gently between the coils in the battery springs and it stiffened them up quite a bit starting from the bottom going up for about 3 coils. That stopped the one I was using from losing power intermittently.
All I can tell you about battery consumption is that both T2's I've hunted with were EXCELLENT on batteries. A good 30 plus hours on Duracell's easily.
Also consider that any user with a new unit will be pushing more buttons, making adjustments and so on while trying things out until they get a good grasp on how they want to run it ... this takes more battery than normal hunting scenarios.

When this came up before, I suggested that placing thin foam against the sides of the batteries within the compartment might work better. Foam against the door could strain the door latch.

I've seen the problem as well. It is caused by the batteries breaking contact if the unit is set down briskly or it tips over, gets bumped too hard, etc.
