Well, I was hunting a local town close by home and very shortly after I had just started a nice guy approached me.
He said he liked to metal detect also and that's all it took. Well I was using my XSII as usual (still have only used my Pro once) and he mentioned he used an Etrac.
I said that is great I would love to try one some time. He had it with him and so we walked over to his vehicle and he showed me its features.
We would talk about places in general we liked to hunt and etc. Then he put it away and we continued to talk about detecting.
He asked if I had found anything yet and I said no.
I mentioned I was just going back over I had hunted before. He showed interest in the ExpII as he watched and talked with me. I told him we would head over to an area I had never hunted and look around.
We talked as I swung the II. Then I got a nice mid high hit bounce bouncing right and left.
I let him hear it and i called it a silver before the dig (lucky me). He had asked about the X1 and if I liked it. I said I would dig the plug and he could find the coin with the X1 to see what he thought.
I think he liked it.
Well, down about 6-7" was the sweet sound of silver coming from the X1 and he saw it first. I pulled it out and was looking at the reverse and I said it was a Barber.
Sure enough it was a 1898.
Then we chatted some more and I said I can also hunt the property next door and he could join me if he wanted.
He said he would love too.
I had hunted this before with my hunting buddy but, as usual there are always things left.
We checked out each others signals as we hunted and he got a nice signal and asked me what i thought it was I was like I have no idea as I do not hunt with FC numbers. They even seemed a tad odd to him but, I agree it sounded like a good target and was pretty deep.
He opened up the plug and there was a Buffalo Nickel and a wheat like stuck together.
He handed me the Buff. and to my surprise it had a crystal clear date of 1920.
He was surprised to see a date as well.
He is a dedicated as me as when we first started hunting he said he only had about 1/2 an hour but, we hunted over an hour.

Without dragging on I (we) probably spent more time chatting then hunting but, I enjoyed hanging out it was fun.
Anyhow, here is my 1898 as it was dug.

Thanks for checking out the post and I hope everyone has a great week. To my new bud, I had a good time and enjoyed the conversation.

Nice finds ... and a nice solid date on the buffalo!!:detecting:

Great story Mike and nice Barber! I hunted as a loner for years but I've found that hunting with someone you trust can be a great experience.
