Well, I got my new, to me, lightly used X-TERRA 705 this afternoon. So I'm a happy new member to the X-TERRA family. Any tips or advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated. I'm sure I'll have a question or two from time to time. I've downloaded Randy's book on "Understanding your X-TERRA " and have found it a wealth of info along with the field guide I downloaded and the owners manual. So I'm looking forward to getting out and swinging. One question I have is, can the Iron Mask be used anywhere other than the Prospecting mode. Thanks in advance Terry.

Welcome! I too am new to the xterra family as well as this wonderful addiction many refer to as a hobby. You got an awesome machine. As a newbie I found the xterra to be relatively easy to use and understand. However, I know this little machine will probably do a lot more than I will ever learn. You got Randy's book...good deal. I learned a lot from that. I downloaded that and the instruction manual to my phone so I have them as reference in the field. HH!

To answer your question....no, unfortunately not. Iron Mask only works in Prospector Mode. It's not like an Explorer. In Prospector Mode on an Xterra you only have 20pts of discrimination, and even turned all the way up it will hit on most non-ferrous targets.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new detector. Hope you like yours as much as I like mine. Not sure about the iron mask as I normally just use Pattern 2 since the only old coins I find are wheaties and the occasional rosie or silver Washington, plus the odd piece of junk jewelry, and of course modern clad.
