It's one the white ones but it doesn't have a coil cover where can I get the white coil covers at or do they still make them? Also guys is it me or does Fishers coil design really seem to work in all sorts of ground conditions? I have bad mineralized soil and my cz's ground balance out at 8. I really don't see any advantage to them making a dd coil I have tried all the other brands of detectors and most of them you really had to work to get them ground balanced just right and some you never would get them to and you had to buy a dd coil then it was fairly easy. I am amazed at how simple these machines are to set up and how deep they go. I am planning using the 10-1/2" coil primarily to relic hunt and hope I go to the sites I have hunted with other brands and see what they produce, I know it's going to be awesome probably like virgin ground to me all over again. I plan on taking my army entrenching shovel that should get the job done I hope. I am going to get the 5" coil later to finish off my arsenal.
The dual frequency is the key. The Cz3D with the large coil is gonna go deep and will be an excellent relic machine set up...though it will be nose heavy. Kieth
You will certainly want to hip mount your CZ with the 10 1/2" coil mounted. You can swing it for a while pole mounted but it wears your arm out pretty quick. Hip mounted it weighs the same as my Vaquero, 2.2 pounds, and you can swing it all day.
Last trip out with my CZ5 and the 10 1/2" coil I hit a target that hit very hard in all 4 directions and was hitting hightone. After digging down about 8 inches or so I found a solid copper rivet about 1/4" in diameter, so you aren't going to lose small targets by using the big coil.
When I bought my big coil it didn't have a coil cover with it. A buddy had a white coil cover he sent me to try and it just didn't fit right on my black coil. Ordered a new black cover and it fits perfect, so you will more than likely need the white coil cover for your coil. I'm not sure if my buddy still has the white coil cover or not. I can check next time I talk to him if you can't fine one.....................HH
I found one of the white coil covers for it and I figured I will definetly have to hip mount it due to the weight and where I relic hunt it's mainly on hill sides and in the woods, so that by itself is a work out but I have a good feeling the areas will still produce some good relics. Now if it the weather would just cooperate i'd get out there and try it out! It has rained every weekend it seems like forever! I wish they had made a cz-5 or 3d on a shaft like the 1266x was on! I just love the way they felt and I use to could swing one them all day long.
It's funny you say that about having a cz mounted on a 1266 rod and handle system. I had the exact same thought myself....the 1266 is just so balanced it feels like an extension of your arm. I would buy one in a heartbeat if someone could come up with a conversion to make it work.
that would be very sweet to swing ! Maybe we need to call Pete Anderson and see if he could make something.....hmmmmm........
Here is what I did to my 1270....should work for the CZ3D. As you can see it is perfectly balanced with the 8" and when I change to the 10.5"...it is just a little off balance. I can hunt with this set up all day. That is a bicycle handle from wal-mart(2 for 10.00) and then I cut a piece of neoprene I had and made a cover for when I set it down. Works for me.
It is all about trade offs. I put the CZ20 on a straight shaft with the box mounted behind the bar. Balances well but once set up, the knobs pretty much don't get fiddled with because it now takes my scoop hand to change settings.
I keep the CZ6a on the original shaft because I can flip between autotune and disc 0 with my thumb. At the beach with the CZ6a I do that flip frequently. Even though I would like better balance and less arm fatigue, I want to be able to flick between the two settings without setting the scoop down. The priorities in the water with the CZ20 are just a little different.
Cheers,
tvr
Hi tvr, on the CZ6a, why do you flip to autotune to disc0? What dose it do in one that the other don,t do? I have a CZ6a that i was going to take to FL. next week, and just don,t know what it dose as i have never beach hunted. Thanks Flintstone
A lot of times when I run my 6a hot in discriminate mode, there are times when I will hit patches on the beach where the unit will sound off, and switching to autotune can let me know if it was a false quicker than if I swept from different directions and did the normal process to try to distinguish if it is a target or false signal.
There are also times when I will be moving along at the normal CZ pace and there aren't many targets, so I switch over to all metal and move quicker ( because you can in that mode ) and when I hit a target, switch over to discrim to see what tone it gives off. I have also found that the more I hunt in autotune, the more I can tell shallow iron and small bits of it. There is a really blaring, wide signal on shallow iron than is different than when hitting a coin.
I will give it a try. I haven,t used this CZ much, I just got it back from Tom D. and he said it was a keeper, 12.3" on a dime, that is air, could be better in ground. Thanks for info. Flintstone
