Gost me an MXT comin. I hear she's a noisy beast..........

I do not know what mode people that say the MXT is noisy are using. I am new to the MXT as I have only been using it since June of this year and I have the Bigfoot coil on it, but it is the best machine I have used. I have an Explorer XS, Whites XLT, Whites Prizm 2 and 5, Garrett gold stinger, a Minelab Eureka Gold, and a Tesoro stingray and a Garrett ace 150, and the Mxt is the most stable machine I have used. I hunt in the coin/jewelry mode and keep the threshold barely audible and the gain at +2 or +3 if it doesn't make the machine seem unstable. Since June with the MXT I have already found about 110.00 in change and my first jewelry being 2 gold rings, 2 silver bracelets, a silver necklace, and 2 silver rings. I have only been able to hunt at most 10 hours a month and am stuck hunting parks that get hit pretty regularly while I am at work but I keep finding good stuff after work. It took me about30 minutes to get comfortable with the MXT, I have had my Explorer for several years but to be fair only got to use it maybe 5 times before the housing cracked rendering inoperable and just did not feel like getting it fixed until recently but that was only because I like the MXT so much I am thinking about trading the XS for another MXT. I don' know maybe something is wrong with mine because it runs so quiet. But as long as I keep finding stuff I am not complaining. Well enjoy it and good luck.
HH Ralph.

Many people say the MXT is noise, but I find it is very quiet and stable running, but I don't run in the Plus mode for sensitivity and only use that when I have a very weak signals. My wife's uses the MXT more than I do and she just loves it and does well with it too. I had a T-2 this past summer too and to me it is a little unstable around some area and also when any other detector is close by, but the MXT is very quiet for me in the same areas.
The MXT is the best Whites and the deepest of any of the Whites I have used and wouldn't trade my MXT for any other Whites detector.

dont push the machine over what the ground conditions can do. I have yet to gear this noise everyone talks about. The coin mode can be a bit uneven threashold wise but I never have a issue. Just adjust the threashold to where you ears are comfortable

a 6X10 DD coil, because the stock coil isn't any good and is too noisy and unstable. The DD coil is supposed to quiet down the MXT.

And yes you can run the MXT without a threshold hum.

Hi Mike,

I have an MXT and use it with the 6X10" DD coil, I even compared the 6X10" DD against the stock 950 concentric coil on depth and separation both test garden and out in the field.

The disadvantage to using the stock 950 concentric coil is it will create the MXT to have a slower recovery speed, You'll miss targets from trashy areas especially iron lace sites. Using the 6X10" DD coil speeds up the recovery speed on the MXT which greatly improves separation plus enhances stability. DD coils greatly help a detector speed up the recovery speed which is the key to better separation.

Depth wise they are about the same plus the DD coil provides greater coverage, many MXT users are leaving the DD on and not going back to the stock 950 concentric.

The smaller 4X6" DD coil is another winner, That small coil gets some serious depth & separation and like it's bigger DD brother helps the MXT with a faster recovery speed. Great for nugget hunting or getting in tight areas.

You'll be very pleased going to the 6X10" DD, Adds to the adventure for sure :)

P.S. Remember how I mentioned I ordered that 51" HMS Victory ship kit. Just started working on her and maybe within a year will be completed. Your ship building inspired me to do the same, I've always wanted to and now it's a dream come true.

HH, Paul (Ca)

I figure to complete that model will take a minimum of 1200 hours, but that will depend on how much fabrication of parts that you will have or want to do. Most kits now are very accurate to scale and have very detailed parts. So hopefully you won't have to fabricate to much. You will really be pulling off a real feat to finish that model in a year. Most who tackle that particular kit spend years on it and most never finish them. But I have faith in you. Please send me some updated pictures when you get time. Also if you need any help, email me.

Thanks for explaining the DD vs Stock coil. I might have to try me one of them DD's.

once you have the machine ground balanced just turn the threashold dow until any background noise not detectanble in the earphones. All you will hear are the beeps over the target.

Thanks, Mike,

You'll love the 6X10" coil, You'll never go back to the stock 950.

On the ship, Going to start planking her in a few days. On this model I will add on more detail especially in the rear cabin area but still should take about a year to complete the entire model, The HMS Victory has always been a favorite of mine so it comes easy understanding the parts of the ship which helps with the building process.

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)

I guess...seems as noisy as a goldmaster...I'm not familliar with the others you mention...I've tried a beach, park, sports field, front yard, & they all seem littered with trash.....OR MAYBE RINGS & PULL TABS....I'm still trying to decifer the different sounds & settings & have a shooter & 6x10 DD coils on the way....Right now I can't seem to move the coil ANYwhere without a different response every two or three inches...I've only had it for a week so I'm not ready to give up yet....I can seem to pick up on the shallow coins...2-5 inches pretty good when I get tired of digging ALL signals & use all the tools available.....BUT I'm gonna have to say that it is ONE noisy beeper...I find it hard to believe that in this day & age of micro processors & such, that a high end type unit can't be programmed to reject specific types of metal like aluminum without decreaseing sensitivity....The credit union I belong to has a coin sorting & counting machine that spits the silver & copper coins back out to you..seems like a small jump in technology to apply that tech. to metal detectors

If you are going to be hunting older areas looking for old deep coins then yes you should get the 6X10DD. If you are going to be hunting parks and fields I would suggest getting a bigfoot coil it covers allot more ground and you can run the MXT in +3 most of the time without getting allot of noise and you'll still get good depth. Just something to think about and Ron at Dixie's will give you a good deal on one if you are interested.

Hi MIKE, WELCOME ABOARD!! I have a WHITES M-6, that I picked up last spring, and I REALLY LIKE IT!! I still have my FISHER CZ-70Pro, and my NEW MINELAB SOV-GT. But, I like hunting with the M-6 for BETTER
Coin Distinction! It id's dollars/halfs/quarters/dimes/nickels, and copper pennies from zincs. I had an MXT three yrs ago, and I found some nice coins with it, but it did not have ENOUGH TONE ID for me.
But, I just LOVED the Prospecting Mode for checking Iron Content in the Ground, before you would start detecting. Whatever you do, hunt in the Relic Mode, and try to run your Gain at +2 or even +3. BEST OF LUCK with it, and I hope you NAIL A G-O-L-D COIN with it. HH, Les
