Someone told me about MSN's Live Search Maps and I am floored by the sharpness when "birds-eye view" is selected. The photos are more recent, and you can pan around a site for different views. I am attaching a birds-eye view from two different angles so you can see the sharpness.

There are a lot of great features in Google Earth that are not available on MSN's site, such as GPS coordinates, map overlays and more, but when the two sites are used in conjunction with each other you have a powerful tool.

One added feature of MSN's site...Nothing to download!!!

Neil, Great tip!!! Many thanks!!!

it doesn't understand latitudes and longitudes, a real must for me. That BE view is pretty sharp, but without it flying to a specific lat and long, it would be too tough to find an exact rural spot. The Google aerial maps are sometimes 12-15 years old, but thats OK by me. If you wanna see something really weird, go to Edmonton Canada on Google earth and start panning on the outskirts of town. Part of it was shot when there was snow and part without snow.

I also like the sites with old satellite photos to see what was once there. I found at a local grade school the ballfield was moved and it led me to a bunch of coins including a silver dime and a 14k gold band.

I can not get it to use the birds eye view, is there something you must do besides clicking on the birds eye button ?

Try typing in your home address, then hit birdseye view

I agree big Daddy. Like I said there are many features on Google Earth that are not on MSN's site. Long & Lat, ruler, push pins, and most importantly the overlay feature. I If you are not using this feature on GE then you have not yet unleashed the power of it. This allows you to overlay historic maps over modern terrain. I am attaching an example of an 1859 map overlayed on Google Earth. Keep in mind I was merely stating that the images in MSN are much clearer. I use all of the above tools as well as many others.
