Good research site for Ya'll and Definite silver coin site for me

I've been thinking about silver coins here lately..I have never been much on coin hunting My passion being Civil war relics! But I do love to dig silver coins when they pop up on my digs especially the civil war dated ones!

But those older Late1800's and early 1900's coins are works of art and a true piece of Americana and I believe I will put forth some of my detective skills to see if I can unearth some of those period coins! In spots I know of that I have left alone due to lack of relics...(I.E. Not old enough sites to produce Civil War artifacts)

I thought I would share a place on the internet I use sometimes..It's not my main research tool.. Not quite old enough but sometimes it helps in certain situations! and actually show a screen shot of what I'm talking about.. Some of you know this is old hat but some newer hunters will find it interesting I'm sure!

The site is http://www.historicaerials.com/

It has aerial photos from 1938 till 2007 with overlay tools for laying one photo on top of the other and map overlays of modern roads also!!!

The Composite picture I am showing you is a site I found about 10 years ago that had a Confederate cavalry camp on it..Well after I hunted it to death I ventured out in there and found a couple of old house sites but they weren't civil war period to new probably 1890's so I left them alone for the most part Just checking to make sure a farmer didn't pick up a buckle in a field and throw it around the house I scanned for the bigger brass signals and was then on my way..

There was one spot on the property that didn't really dawn on me till a few weeks ago when looking at a aerial photo and it all came together..The spot I found that day in around 1999 had a rotten wooden style jon boat setting in the middle of the woods and parts of brass fly rod tip's laying around...and in some places old WW1 tent stakes and a few pieces of silver money that day that dated to 1920's 1930's Dimes and Quarters maybe 3 or 4..I hunted it for a couple of hours and moved on out...

Now I know what it was.. It was a Lake for crying out loud!! I even now remember the dam at one end thinking it was some sort of elevated road back then?

Well you can see from the photo.. one from 1938 on the left it was a Farm and I know where the houses were..And the Lake also..On the modern photo they are all gone..But the Coins are still there..And the lake area is 100% untouched I'm sure...even Remember now while typing this a Roy Rogers token was laying there..

I have marked the sites were the house and lake were and then on the modern photo the same thing..OH' the cavalry camp is way gone!!!

What's the moral of the story Don't get so blinded looking for one treasure you overlook another one that's right in front of you..!

Anyhow I thought I would share the site and a short story and maybe this summer I will check her out some more ...Well that is if the relics play out!!

But seriously I need to get started on some of these other sites I have left alone.. The coin craze has been creeping up on me lately:)

Thanks

Maybe it will help some of You out??

Keith,

Good research.
Do you think the pond or lake had a relationship with the camp?
Maybe the lake was at one time a spring?
Refresh us with some of the finds from the camp.
