Good reason to dig a 46

Those babies are tough to find. A dollar was a chunk of change back in 1883. Not only were they a lot of money, but if someone dropped one, they were much easier to locate than smaller coins. Congrats on an excellent find. That is one that you will never forget! HH Randy

Thanks guys, Before this, silver quarters were my biggest silver. Now I have my sights set on that gold coin.

Exactly why I figured I would never find a .50 piece. When I found the one I did I had gotten a good signal but didn't get to excited because I was just learning my Explorer. I softened up the dirt in the hole and scooped out a handful of dirt. The coin was sticking out from between my fingers, I yelled to my brother and he quickly came over and pulled it out of my grasp. It was an 1864 half-dollar!! That's one find I'll never forget especially with my brother being there. However, your coin is a lot nicer than mine. WTG.

I always dig 46 s . If my X-70 gives a high tone and locks in with a 46, I did a big hole so as not to scratch a silver dollar. I have dug some in places ( 12" deep) that I have hunted with other brands of detectors and missed them. I love those Morgan dollars.

What a beautiful piece, WTG!!!

Real nice find. The last 46 I dig was a brass cartage.

Very nice find! But when ever I see a Morgan dollar my stomach gets sick, as my dad and I had a bunch of these in our coin collection that got stolen.

Does anyone have an on-line (US, Canadian, Australian, and/or UK) coin values (what they are worth depending on condition) web page link, to pass on to us here ?

(Yes I know there are books but I am interested in web page links if there are any.)

"A Guide Book of United States Coins". The Red Book has long been the "Bible" of US coin values.

(Found a Matchbox Car, a 1971 model, Made in England, at a solid 44 on my X-70 and also worth collecting.)

Heading back to the car and trash can, I ran across a strong 46-48 signal, mostly 46 with the 6" 18.75 kHz coil. Decided to dig as it was going to be the last target of the day. Ended up being 2 clad quarters essentially on top of each other less than a half an inch down. This site has a lot of minus iron and larger 46 plus iron that I have investigated in pinpoint, but I am going to be a lot more careful from now on.
