Basically....headed out for breakfast, put a map in front of me and picked the first spot that looked interesting. It's a huge park with lots of hills and trees. Below are the coin popping....rewards for about 4 hrs worth of knee bends.

Congrats on a very nice hunt John!! One Question? The item with the Gold color and the crossed ecthing? Is it Gold? Beale.

Wow! What a great hunt John - that'll keep the knees lubricated and delay the knee replacements, lol!!! Good Job!

Man that's a lot of digs ! Really cool retrieval tool you have there.

About 10 years ago, there was a guy, who was retired and I think his name was Charlie. He was an avid metal detectorist, and also an inventor. He built many of these, then one day sadly passed away. The coin popper is very unique, in that it makes a 1 inch plug. That's about the size of a soil aerator hole. First you pinpoint the target, then push that little digger beside the target, pull the round ball to the ground (it acts as a fulcrum) then push down on the handle and the plug pops out with ease. It works great in hard soil. The digger part is interchangeable with a slightly larger digger, which is held in place with an allan screw. A great little gizmo for doing minimal damage to the grass.

A video I did years ago showing coin popping with a screwdriver.

Good technique but don't you risk scratching your target since your popper is steel? I've seen people do the same with a fairly stiff piece of brass or copper.

You would think but, my screwdriver has been used for so long the tip is completely rounded and very dull. The key is a good pinpoint so you can get right under it without hitting it.

wow that is quite the haul for coinage. I will say John you do find your share of lighters. Lotta smokin' goin' on.....

Impressive coin count, John! I was talking to a friend the other day and mentioned that I got a pretty good workout on my detecting outings. She said "Oh, you don't get too much exercise doing that, do you?" I just smiled and said "You need to come out with me." The great thing about detecting is that I don't really notice while I'm concentrating on digging targets. When I get home-- well, some days I just hit the easy chair while Tigger whips up some dinner. (In my dreams  )
