...I hope the sun is shining and the air is warm, or warmer, and you get to do a little digging this afternoon. The sun came up over the horizon outside of our 8th floor window. It was a magnificent sunrise.
We had a rough night last night. Brian's tube gets clogged and he can't breathe easily so we have to suction it out to open his airway. Last night we had to do this several times so none of us got much sleep. But, we did gain valuable experience so we will be able to care for him at home.
Either today or tomorrow Carol and I have to learn how to remove the trache and replace it with a new one. The removed trache then has to be cleaned and sterilized. If we get the training completed we may be released early this week. We are all ready to get home, but we're still not confident in our abilities to maintain the trache.
This web site is very informative about the history, care and risks involved with a trache. http://www.tracheostomy.com/
Brian did eat his first solid food this morning, a few small bites of pancake, but it's a giant step towards going home. He also drank most of a bottle of Ensure. Right now Carol is feeding him a few Fruit Loops. He is now off of the IV fluids now except when they give him his antibiotic.
I can't thank all of you enough for your thoughts and prayers. Every time the pager goes off it is reassuring to know the Lord is receiving another petition on Brian's behalf.
