Good Luck and Bad Luck

I went to go hunting the hurricane tossed waters of Horseshoe Bay this morning and discovered that the blue headphones on my Excal had been stepped on by the housepainter and the main harness was split in two.:ranting: I grabbed some electrical tape and spliced it back together in time to make it to the beach just after sunrise and managed a nice 14k ring with Ice. I bought a CZ21 a month or so ago and it packed it in after 1 hunt so it's away for warranty work and may eventually find its' way home to Bermuda, hopefully before the season winds down.
My ACE250 is a fun little machine but it's no weapon for a Surf Pirate. What's a Pirate to do??
I've juryrigged the headphone on the Excal until I can manage to send it in for a coil overhaul and an upgrade to Grey Ghosts. Who knows when the CZ21 will arrive for a return engagement, only moderately impressed with it anyways. So I've decided to combine a couple of contest wins on another forum to help purchase a Whites Surf Pro PI Dual Field detector, hopefully it will give me something to hunt with before the Excal packs it in completely and the CZ21 comes home.

Cheers,

BDA:cool:

When you send it in are you planning to have the headphones hard wired or have minelab put on the bulkhead fitting and the connector placed on the grey ghosts?

She's still managing to hang in there but the Excals are built like tanks so I shouldn't be surprised. I'll go with the ike light connection for the Grey Ghosts. I'm not a huge fan of hardwired.

Cheers Mate,

Sorry to here about the Excal. but I saw the ring on the other post you put up , that is one fine ring . HH

I have to admit that I've worked my Excal hard in all sorts of conditions over the past few years but she's like a Timex, she just keeps on ticking away the tickets.:lol: I can't work the wet sand once the coil connection gets splashed by a wave, it immediately starts to false but settles back down once the coil is completely submerged, falses again as soon as I come back out of the water for about 5 minutes.
I'm pretty sure I'm losing depth as I haven't dug many targets deeper than 16" since the coil started acting up and I used to hit those deep ones regularly. The question now, Joe is when she's going to give up the ghost not if.

Keep Dodging Those Gators Mate,

I just knew you'd come away with some loot! Congrats. Hope your detector woes are a thing of the past soon. In the meantime the little 250 will do better than nothing. Just watch out for a rogue wave.

Have connectors put on the Grey Ghosts and the blue head phones. If something goes wrong with one set at least you can easily put the other set on and still use the Excal. That is the way J-man and I have ours set up.........you never know........$#!# happens.
