Good Hip Mount Pouch?

UtahRich

Well-known member
Well, summer is quickly approaching and as the snow melts off the mountains it is time to start thinking about hunting the ski slopes. I have a new detector this year for the job, a CZ-5 :fisher: that I plan on using. But, it needs to be hip-mounted/Chest mounted.

Anybody have a hip-mount/chest mount pouch that is working exceptionally well for them? There are all sorts of binocular options out there. I am looking for something that can be chest mounted and if possible have some strain relief arrangement for the cable. Hiking around all the snags on the steep ski slopes is a challenge and I don't want to be replacing cable connectors if I can prevent it.

Appreciate any input.

Rich, does the cz5 mount like the cz20 if so here is the chest mount that I use.

Steve :)

I've not had a CZ-20, but I will guess that it is similar. The CZ-5 has a rail that it slides onto that is mounted on the upper shaft.

Your mount looks tough as nails.

I know they make an excellent leather one for digital CZ's and may work on a CZ5...time to call your fisher dealer.....or Fisher itself....Sovereign bag either material or leather will work also..

Thats the problem with hip-chest mounts always the chance you are going to pull and strain where the coil cord attaches to box...Some run under your belt and leave a little loop to help protect this from happening..

Thanks for the input.

YUPP!!! thats correct it is the same size as the cz5 ,i have an original cz external speaker i use some times and it also fits in the minimi bag no probs but i will have to trade the speaker soon for a 10" coil ,mine is acting up some terry in oz:ausflag:

Heres a really nice rain cover made out of military grade rain-proof materials that also works while hip mounting too. It has slits in the bottom for the belt to travel through into the bracket. The coil jack is completely covered and has a captive velcro tie to snug it to the pole or just the cable when its hip mounted. When the window is down your thumb easily slips under the window to access the pin-point button and other controls, with out lifting the window. When its not raining, the window flips up and fastens to the top. Made in the USA too!
P.M. for more info.

Figure out some sort of strain relief so the pressure won't be on the connector from the coil to the control box...Wow lots of good ideas but Fisher makes a chestmount for the Digital CZ's which should work and I believe one company makes a specific bag for the analog CZ's and I think ARGO is the company but right now don't know if they still do..

When I first started years ago hipmounted everything and believe me very easy to disable the plug from the first paragraph so do be careful as its takes some tedious soldering along with where which color wire goes where. Advise having it done professionally so a good solid solder connection...

Hello Rich (Utah),

This link is referring to a post on another forum on this website that offers a truly great idea for a readily available hip-mount pouch for short money.

For the strain relief, go to any auto parts store or Radio Shack and get some that are made to put wire through and guide them around objects inside a chassis. There's a plastic loop that goes around the wire and on that plastic loop there's two holes to put a bolt or pop rivet through. I just come out of the pouch, drill or burn a small hole in the pouch and bolt the strain relief to the pouch somewhere. You'll always have strain somewhere but it's better to put it in the wire somewhere rather than at a connector. Check to make sure the relief you get is for the size wire you put through it. If it's too small you can pinch the wire and put too much strain on it. If it's too loose the wire will just slide in and out of it. Very cheap and and a good system. It's best to put all brass or stainless fasteners to hold the relief. Won't rust or react in the salt or fresh water and is only a few cents more than the coated zinc. jim

Rich,
