Good Headphones

I am looking for a set of new headphones and would like some suggestions. I have only had inexpensive ones so I don't have any idea which of the good ones to buy. I have a minelab X-Terra 505 and do mostly coin and relic hunting.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sun Ray Pro Gold headphones money well spent !

I bought a pair of Senhiesers at the Guitar Store on sale.

They are very comfortable and cost less than a hundred dollars for studio quality earphones.

My only problem was that the cord is too long, but I can live with that for the performance.

I adapted them for use with my Infinium.

They have no individual volume controls, but I padded each earpiece with rubber gasket material and now have the volume where I want it.

When hunting in the water I use the Garrett's water proof units.

A few important to consider when purchasing headphone. Comfort has to be on top of the list, have you ever tried to detect with a pair that just didn't fit correctly. It makes a long and miserable day.The next thing that I like is a volume control to adjust the sound to your comfort level. The last thing I look for is how well they are made, and does the manufacture stand behind his product. There is several good brands on the market and to name a few ,Ratphones- Killer Bee - Gray Ghost -Koss- etc. Remember you get what you pay for, check out some of the forum's about accessories and see the plus and minus of each brand. There is many choices available, more than when I started thirty years ago. I have used the brands mentioned, and in my opinion you can't go wrong.
Good Luck:detecting:

Cheep -V - Quality
If you are serious about detecting, yes there is a difference. Yea you will see someone that says that the cheep ones are just the same -- Nope! Why spend good money for a nice detector and defeat it's purpose on the other end.
Cheap's are for back up.
I have a set of Grey Ghost Black Widows and love them. I have 5 sets of headphones and I only use my GGBY.
They do fit tight on the head but you get use to them, however if they don't fit snug around the ears you will get a lot of ambient noise from your surroundings. I can use mine on the beach with the waves and wind and can hear the faint signals.
Yes i did Grinch when i bought mine because of the cost but now I am glad i have them.

One set is not enough. You need a set of "cup" type that insulates you from outside noise (the beach, wave noise, next to a busy hiway) and a set that just sets on your ears and lets you hear whats going on around you (the forest, a park on the wrong side of town, etc) The most important part of detecting is getting back home in one piece.

I have a set of the SunRay Pro Golds and a set of the Kiler Bee Wasps. I really like both of them. One advantage the Wasp have is that the mode switch locks int place. This is the switch that aloows different machine use. On the Sun Rays I was and still am prone to hit that switch, and then I can not hear a thing, Beale.

Once you have it set up - what are you doing hitting the switch out of whack?
Curious since I haven't been having the problem, and if all goes silent I would hope to know immediately so I don't pass all the gold & silver. I have a habit, even on silent search detectors doing an operational check before going on after a dig. Actually, I always re-check a dig, and seem to have a habit of swinging a coil near the boots eyelets checking the detector.

I will stick to quality headphones and always take a spare or two along. I mainly hunt by audio so it's important to me. It would probably bother me if I went out with 9.95 headphones. I probably wouldn't go detecting - instead I'd be beating down the local dealer's door just to make it right.
Same with home stereo - must be quality, and I want HDTV also. Some things I don't want to skimp much - some.

I seen something on youtube where a guy had some blue tooth headphones.... Who makes those??

I swing left handed and the switch ie on the left ear. As I set the MD down or pick it up I guess I am brushing it with my arm? It is not a big deal just happens, Beale.

I use Sennheiser OMX 95 VC style II, They stay on your ears and have a very clear sound tweaked with a FiiO E5 headphone amplifier which is the size of a business card.

I have a range of headphones to match the needs of my various machines as the best for one machine can be the worse for another especially if the detector relies on tone output. I prefer slimline but have some of the bulky Peltor design where a ton of sound proofing is needed ie for working alonside a major road or on the beach with crashing waves.

I suggest you lean towards the suggestions from people who have the same detector. This also gets round the problem of type of jack needed, straight or 90 degree.

Thanks for all the input and messages, now I just have to make up my mind which ones to buy.
