I'm lookin for a good metal detector,as compared to the MXT for a friend of mine.I live on the oregon trail in central oregon and need a partner, so i have talked a friend into getting one but he can't afford an MXT <img src="/metal/html/frown.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":("> .So i'm looking for the next best thing, something that will do good on all metals, for 300.00 dollars, hehe i've been watching ebay under the headings metal detector,MXT,Whites. So far no luck.can anyone tell me what is another good detector, and where to find one.THANKS in advance
Ben

What about a Classic III? Seems to be an excellent machine.

All of those detector are good choices. But if you would like to get the Advantage let me know.I have one thats like new and also comes with the 12.5" coil from Detect Inc.I think it would do well in your friends situation?.Price shipped to You? $345.I just don't have time to use it,Can't get away from my MXT and Explorer. Anyway Good Luck and HH Jerry

I have to agree that the Minelab Musketeer Advantage is an excellent machine. Especially for the price. I have used one since they hit the market and, although it does not have the VDI of my MXT, it has all the depth and sensitivity. If your buddy don't mind waiting the extra 15 seconds it takes to dig a target before identifying it, he will find the Advantage to be an excellent detector.

Do not overlook the Whites's Quantums.
The closest metal detector to the MXT would be a QXT. I firmly believe (and stand alone) that the MXT has many features of the QXT incorporated into it. Despite the claims thats it's all new technology.
If you want an "all metals" detector as you said, both the QII & QXT will serve you well. The price range for used models will be close to what you seek as well.

The Silver Sabre uMax can be picked up used for less than $200 and is a kickin' machine for coinshooting, the Bandito II uMax can be had for less than $300 and is a good relic machine for starting, althougfh neither one has target ID. Bounty Hunter has affordable target ID, but depth is a little shallow.
