I have been reading the past posts lack about about a hundred pages awesome information exists here. I am saving for a 250 this spring. I am going to ask this question both here and on the whites page to see just what y'all say. One of my insurance customers and her husband have had a come apart. She wants to sell me a White prism IV for $150.00 is this a good deal and if not why not. I only know what I have read here about MDing. Thanks "LittleOldMan"

Well, both machines are very similar with their bells and whistles, but for a little more money you get a brand new ACE. I own an ACE, I have found plenty od coins and rings with an ACE. Even a used ACE holds it's value. A Prizm IV ?............I never owned one, so I won't comment on it. :)

I second John's opinion. I have a GTI 2500 and an ACE 250. My wife has an X-Terra 50 and I like the ACE better and it was a fraction of the price of the X-Terra.

The Prism is a decent machine but the 250 is the hottest selling machine on the market for one reason - it's better. And if you're new to detecting the 250 is easier to learn and use.

The Prizm isnt turning out to be too hot for Whites. It is good, but not what was hoped. Reviews tend to bear that out.
For $150, it is a very good deal. I woul dbuy it, use it a time or two and then sell it for $250 - and buy an Ace 250.

No doubt a good price as I stated on the other forum. But since your here on this forum I will tell you why the 250 is the better buy.
1. On the Ace 250 you have complete control over the 12 notches. You can accept or reject any or all of them.
P4 Has smart notch. This means when you go into that mode your discing out iron, foil and tabs. That's really all you can do. The P4 has 8 notch segments compared to the 12 the 250 has.
2. Batteries. The 250 runs on 4 cheap AA cells. The P4 runs on 2 expensive 9 volts. Battery life is about the same for both machines.
3. Coils. P4 has available the 8, 9 and 9.5 inch coil. You see they are really about the same size! The Ace 250 has a 4.5, 6x9 and 9x12 coil. Plus they are cheaper in price.
4. Modes. Ace 250 has 5. The P4 has one. If you set up a custom mode on the 250 it will remember it after you turn it off. The P4 forgets it.

Now Dayhut has it right. Buy the P4 and sell it. Then you'll make enough to buy a new Ace 250! Plus some accessories to boot.....

LittleOldMan,

Maybe you should ask the same question on the White's Forum on Finds. Keep in mind you're on the Garrett Forum where a good portion of the people are perhaps partial to Garrett's. I'm not trying to cause trouble, but I bet you just might get the exact opposite advice on the White's forum.. Good luck either way.

He asked there before asking here. I told him over there that it was a good deal. It is. But now that he's here I think he should buy and resell it to pay for a 250. I wouldn't say that on the other forum due to respect to the brand. Really he should post his question on the general forum for a true unbiased reply. I'm positive most would say Ace 250.
Here is the Whites link. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?25,861842,861842#msg-861842

John hit it right on the head when he mentioned drop in value of Whites detectors compared to Garrett. Just go to a site such as Ebay and see what a 4 year old XLT is going for......around $450.00 for a detector that cost almost a thousand new. A used Garrett 250? Maybe 50 bucks less than what they sell for new, and they sell.

I use the 250 and love it I bought my dad the 150 and he likes it . the garrett 150 only cost about 150 dollars and is great for just starting out the only thing it does not have a pinpoint button
