Got permission to hunt an fairly old school. they would only let me hunt in the back yard and half of that has a new building on it. the leaves are starting to turn their multi colors and it was sunny and cool in the morning, just nice temp for detecting. My buddy has the CTX3030 and found a Barber half and a Barber quarter. I only found 7 silver dimes, a Barber quarter and a silver ring! I have been having trouble learning this machine and have found that I still cannot do to well in trashy areas yet but I do pretty good in less trashy places like this one. I am using Andy's High Pro program from his book, modified of course to my conditions. I have very low mineralization so I have never done the ground balance thing. I can run the sens up to the max most of the time. I am using full tones and am liking that. I have been cherry picking the high tones, anything above 88 in 12k, because I cannot remember the other lower good numbers yet without having my cheat sheet handy. Oh to have a good memory again :)

Only 7 silver dimes....
That's a fantastic haul for anyone! I bet there's scores of Indian and Wheat cents there too...if there was a way to set ID norm to other frequencies than 18 kHz I think this would help a lot of people....just a thought!

Those Indians and Wheat cents are begging to be discovered lol!

CZ, I did dig a few wheats at 84-86 but didn't look for anything with a lower TID. I am not sure what you mean about setting ID norm to other freqs... I was running in 12k... tell me more about what you mean and I will go back there and give it a go... like I said, I wasn't digging lower TID's cause I can't remember what is good at what TID.

ID norm was introduced so that people wouldn't have to remember 4 different VDI values for 4 different frequencies. It is set for 18 kHz values, but the problem with this is that most US coins in 18 kHz get scrunched into the top third of the VDI range where a Nickel reads 62-64 in 18 kHz. By contrast, the same nickel hits 38-40 in 4 kHz...this spread effectively uses almost two thirds of the 00-99 VDI range for US coins, and with full tones you get the lower pitched audio while using the lower frequencies.

It really depends on what you're looking for, some people don't even need full tones or even a VDI reading, but having the ability to set ID norm to other frequencies' VDI readings would help many people while they are learning other things about the detector without having to remember specific values if they are using breakpoints, for example.

Sounds like you have a site well worth revisiting . . . . . super finds - 8 silver in a day is a red letter day in anyone's book!

Glad the Hi-Pro program worked for you . . . . keep us posted on what else turns up
