I haven't been posting all my stuff, but winter actually hit NE Ohio recently (finally) and I haven't been out much the last week or more.
I went to a park nearby where I found my 1941 Merc, and with my son checked an area in the far reaches of the park near some RR tracks and ended up with just under a buck in clad. Then we went to another area park and checked the exposed beach area of a decent sized freshwater lake. Started hitting quarters right away, and then viola!...a ring!...nice handmade .925 silver. Then another silver ring...then another silver ring shaped like entwined fish. The a gold wedding band!...then more quarters, dimes, pennies, etc. We ended up with around $4 total, with the oldest a 1965 quarter (dern...almost!) We were at the end chopping through the ice near shore and digging and scooping water/sand/mud mix to retrieve the coins. When our hands couldn't be felt anymore we went home. If it's nice tomorrow we will go back, as there's lots of area we haven't checked well yet.
Here's a pic (there were also a .22 cal bullet, a couple earings and a "I love Mom" pendant and a pewter star necklace. Sorry but the pic didn't turn out great. All rings look phenominal after a touch of Simichrome.

Awesome Day, Danimal. That 250 really rocks, doesn't it?..:wiggle:

Just got out with mine 3 times in late Jan, then winter came again. Sure anxious to put to use some of the advice I've picked up here on the Forum.:nerd:

Hey Dan...congrats on the rings and other goodies! I know how the NE Ohio winters are when they get going...I grew up on the West side and East Sides of Cleveland right on Lake Erie, and I was there for the winter of '77- Temps down below zero with windspeeds that hit 80-100mph on the lake. Holy Smokes was it ever cold. I live in Georgia now, and I just got my Ace 250 a couple weeks ago. I've only got about 20 hours on it, but I love it!

Well Spencer (my son) and I went back on Sunday and worked another 50 yard stretch of the beach area for about two hours and picked up:
17 more quarters (7 in one hole!)
20 dimes
5 nickles
15 pennies
3 more rings with two being .925(one fancy with the word "Hope" engraved on it) and a small 18K gold ring with two hearts on it.
so ....in two days,
30 quarters and seven rings
and we really haven't scratched the surface!...well really we did
-The best area for me was the area from the edge of the ice on the lake out about 6ft. When I would pinpoint, I'd dig the point of the gator into the ice to mark the pinpoint, and then hack a circle out around the mark and remove the ice disk (it was about 2" thick)..and then using the gator and scoop, quickly remove the soil before the hole filled with water. It was cold, wet work, but since the lake was already about 12" below normal full summer level, we were digging where the water would be 18" deep or so. Next trip out I'm trying deeper, but the ACE seems to be loosing depth quickly as the ice gets thicker.
(we haven't barely even touched the actual beach area)
Great fun!
Here's a better pic of just the rings!

I'll post pictures tonight, but last night's hunt back at the ol' swimming hole produced:
34 quarters (oldest 1966)
26 dimes (oldest-two 1965)
8 nickles (oldest 1951)
36 pennies (oldest a 1945 wheatie)
3 .925 silver rings
1 18K gold "I heart you" ring
1 Chuck E Cheese token
1 .925 silver drum charm

107 coins total with a face value of $11.86 but an intrinsic value that's priceless

also I produced:
1 very sore lower back
lol

I'll post some pics later, and I'll be back there this weekend if the weather permits.

Here's a few pictures from the third trip to the old swimming area:

God...I really wanna get back there this weekend, but this freakish weather is about to turn bad. It was windier this am than I can remember, and it's supposed to be in the teens-20s this weekend w/snow, and it was in the 50's yesterday.
Weird

Maybe I'll just race slot cars and drink beer this weekend...

mmmm beer

I spent another 2 hrs Saturday in the same park, but worked the park proper and skipped the beach/lake, as I was told that they have trucked in new sand nearly every year for decades, and I figured that the older coins would be unreachable (as productive as that area HAS been). I ended up with $3.50 in clad, with TWO 1965 quarters (sooo close)
I left when I couldn't feel my fingers any longer (14 deg F)...I will be back, as there were coins nearly everywhere, and I was being real selective on what I dug due to the cold and the rock-hard ground (I actually bent my Gator digger!)
I'll be back there when this deep freeze breaks.
Sorry--no more pics this time
