Good couple of silver days gets my first Franklin half

Took about 8 hours, to get this bunch at my special place. The 2 quarters where within 6 inches of the half, my first Franklin half. I got the half after the two quarters- from the same pocket I suspect, all 1963. Got a bunch of wheat backs too. Most of my firsts are totally unexpected- its like yikes I wasnt even thinking of that. Leaves are getting deeper, and when wet heavier. Took someones advice and last night put sealant on those seams towards the bottom of the double d, as yesterday in the lite misty rain, it was acting up seemed better behaved today.Good Hunts all, CO

Wow! looks like a hunt from years ago, with all the silver finds.

Make sure the sealant goes around the little raised area on the back of the coil. It already looks like there is a seam there. Get it sealed, that is where mine leaked. I only got in trouble when I put the entire coil under water. Nice haul of silver. Everybody would love a day like that. Congrats.

Mike T, a traditional cover, the type that snaps on and protects the bottom wouldnt matter, these are some seams that are on the upper surface of the coil. Some folks claim moisture can get in there and hinder performance. I dont know and dont claim this is the cause, only twice in several years under moist hunting conditions on land Ive had the coil starts misbehaving. The next day, when dry the coil is back to normal. Some folks surmise that the seams might be the culprit. Or perhaps a pin hole somewhere. These are coils Ive used and beat up a while and perhaps the seal gets compromised or shrinks. So I put some sealant on there, the real test will be a very moist day in high wet turf, etc. If the seams are the cause, I assume the company hears these things and works to correct them in their newer production runs, etc. CO

Nice haul. Ive never found a silver half. Grats!!!! Havent had my coil wet yet. Maybe I should put some silicon on it.
Great hunt,
John

Perfect hunt osgood, gota be a real thriller pulling that much silver out of the ground!!!!!!.......hh rick in mi.

Great job Osgood. Geeeeeeez ... look at all them dimes ! :clapping: cch

Super silver day and due to low mintage Franklin halves are tough to find...Of course the time period of the area you are hunting increases your chances but one never knows as I got one in Barber country.

Thanks for all your comments. It was odd after finding barber halves, walking liberty halves, and Kennedys to finally get the Franklin- i remember them as a child -but havent seen one in like forever. Would like to find some of those real early ones like the Liberty seated, capped bust etc- those are very artistic. How cool that would be. The weather is with us yet, Happy Hunting all, CO

Wow, dreams come true. Awesome you must have been excited.
