Good "classic" gold detector?

Hey all

Im thinking of getting a gold specific detector for searching old gold-fields etc.
There's a lot of older model Whites, Garretts etc around at the moment which go for reasonable prices, can anyone recommend a favorite machine from the older range?

Garrett was running a special this summer. The Scorpion is good for getting small nuggets and also has a motion discriminate for coins and jewelry.I got great results this year with coins and rings..... here are the rings:

I would say it depends on the kind of gold you want to find or that is in your area. If you are looking for the small gold in tailing piles then i would go with the gold bug or the minelab eureka gold. but if you want bigger nuggets at depth then the best choice is a minelab sd or gp machine I prefer the GP Extreme. The machine I use has found lots of gold over the years.

You see them on the used market sometimes and they're a great start. Ditto the Garrett Stinger.
If you get one of these, lay in a supply of 9V batteries.

Hah if I had the funds I would buy a SD or GP in a flash, I don't however which is why I thought buying an older (high end) detector might be the way to go.
