Hunted a field today with my buddy. Hit a strong signal, but jumpy on my AT Pro. Rang up around 76. Dug down about 5"-6' and found my first plate! Back side was up and covered in dirt -- thought I just had a hunk of melted lead. Flipped it over and saw the US! Ran over to my buddy hollerin 'I found a Plate! " After showing it to him, I took it back to the truck for safe keeping, as it looked pretty fragile. Went back to my detector, covered the plug. Then, about 4 " away I hit my next signal and found the small broken off edge -- a perfect match. But it got even better! My next signal was about 4' away, and I pop out the large cent! Cant make out the date yet. Have it soaking in olive oil. I cleaned the plate in soapy water, and a little disappointed in the results. Really looks "washed out" and has some black color on it too. Any ideas on how to preserve it? I dont want it to deteriorate any worse. I would appreciate your ideas Thanks, Chip
