Gonna be in Ca and Az in late June-any help?

Guys, I'll be driving my son back to Camp Pendleton in late June. I'm planning to bring my detector (VLF) and hoping to try my luck at a gold nugget! I'm thinking California might be a little better weather-wise, but I have a few places I wouldn't mind checking out in Az as well-probably early morning or evening hunting due to the heat. Anyway, I'm not looking for anybody's spot or anything, but if anybody would be willing to meet for a day and maybe give some guidance, etc that would be great! My head is about to explode from all the videos and book reading I've been doing on nugget shooting...so I plan to go somewhere while I have the opportunity! I work for myself so if its one day or three it won't matter.

Are you looking to detect with your son along the drop off trip or return trip alone. Also where are you driving from as route utilized would be most beneficial to provide desired info ya need-John

We're driving out in his vehicle, then I'll pick up a rental. I can take either route back to Texas-that part is totally flexible at this point. I had planned to maybe go to the Prescott area if AZ. Honestly I'm totally open to ideas.

Slight modification to plan-gonna leave early here and my son will join me for a few days on this adventure. We will hunt California, maybe hit a GPAA claim or two. Any help is still appreciated! We'll have an ATX and a VLF machine for nuggets. I have pans and a tiny sluice if that's more appropriate but with the drought...?

Late June will be really hot in the So Cal gold hunting areas. The Sierra would be okay. The Prescott area would be cooler temperature wise. There are some open areas along Groom Creek. Lynx Creek can show some colors but has been hit by thousands. The upper Hassyampa drainage area is pretty good but a 4WD or quad is needed on the forest service roads unless you want to hike. There are a few good areas for crevicing just above Wilhoit that can be reached with a short hike down from from Hwy 89.

Prescott could work and has been suggested to me by another person. We will have a 4x4 Tahoe, and neither one of us mind a hike. Az has been on my personal 'must hit' list for awhile anyway.

the potholes area just west of Yuma was a good producer about 10 years ago. its in California. I now live in Washington. It will be really hot this time of year!
