Goldstalker 6" Sniper Coil Scores

Yo All...I've been researching an old placer area up in the Vulture Mountains far west of Wickenburg...I hit a little gulch a couple weeks ago for a couple nuggets, then went on an extended hike...I've covered a lot of ground and a bunch of gulches and gullys up to today...Today I found an area where the old timers ripped up some surface quartz out crops...Lots of surface trash, and then, this afternoon, just before sundown, I hit an indicator nugget...0.4 DWT... Then, down the gulley, right in the middle of the gully, underneath an obnoxious palo verde, I hit this interesting 1/4 OZT nugget, showing some real dark purple quartz...Can't wait to get back there over the next few days....I'm getting really addicted to the prospecting part of our hobby...It is very rewarding to research and observe certain mineralization and then see that observation pay off in nuggets....I used the new CT 6" Goldstalker sniper coil...It's one awesome coil...Never been skunked with it yet, but mostly on tiny gold, until this patch...You'll notice above the larger nugget in the group shot a speck...Can't be more than 1/4 grain and it was an identifiable target right at the surface....Good coil...Cheers, Unc

Great pictures & great nuggets!

I'm curious to hear from more users with the Goldstalker coils. Especially the smaller 6". How does it handle otherwise?
How long have you been using it? How's the depth on small gold with this coil & is it oversensitive to ground noise?

Cheers!

Marco

Yo Marco...The little 6" is a very good coil that is not overly sensitive to mineralization, black sand and such, yet gets good depth...Being a small coil, it's like trying to paint the entire desert with a 2" wide paint brush, but used in close quarters, it's an awesome coil...I'm really glad I bought it! ... Here's a photo of that nugget cleaned up ... Cheers, Unc

UncleRon, Great photos and story.

I enjoy seeing some activity on this site.
Guess I need to get the pick out and bust up some frozen ground.
Almost time to start the season.

That dinker, looks like GB-2 pieces. Little Nibblers.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi again Uncle Ron.
I've had a chance to further ponder your favourite 6" Mono.
I'm exploring a super little creek with plenty of old wash up high and a LOT of gold deeper down in the gravel on the creek bottom. I sampled the wash ABOVE the bedrock and found it to be amazingly rich with Gold with just under a gram per handful of dirt in some places (I'm located in Australia). There's plenty of diggings here around us from the old timers too. I haven't even had a chance to dig down to the the bedrock yet but I recall my 6" DD on the old X-Terra was a gem when it came to crevicing.

I recently had an opportunity to test a few coils (see picture below) on the GPX-4500. First thing I noticed was that the Coiltek has a simpler audio response on the detector whereas the Commander coils give me a sweet range of target sound with variation in the pitch.

I found the Commander Coil to be ever so slightly less sensitive in an air test with a 1.55 gram (1dwt) nugget than the Coiltek 6".
Bearing in mind that the Commander is an elliptical Double-D coil, this was probably not a surprise and the difference was slight yet noticable.
For sheer grunt, the 6" seemed to be the more powerful.

I also tried the larger 10x5" Mono from Coiltek and found it to be much the same as the Commander Double-D coil. Since a smaller coil with a tighter winding is always going to give a denser field up close, this probably accounts for the strength of the Coiltek 6".

I might try this coil next weekend and I appreciate your post. There's a lot of smaller nuggets in the area I'm currently exploring and I suspect a few other electronic Prospectors are using this coil or at least something similar. I can either use this coil or bring the X-Terra 70 along with me and try my luck with the 6" DD HF coil I have on it. I'd much rather slip over into a creek full of water with the X-Terra than the GPX.

If you have any further observations in your experience on using the 6" coil, I'd like to hear back from you should you read this.
Since the Coiltek coils tend to use more battery power, did you notice much/any drain on your battery with this coil?

Regards

Marco

UPDATE:
Purchased one today. I found it was very difficult to fit to the lower shaft to the coil... just a little bit too tight.... so I bought an extra shaft just for this coil.

Should do the trick. Thanks for the earlier reply.

Regards,

Marco
