Goldquest gets a little gold

Beach hunting has been tough. Amongst the junk, beat up zincs and 3 nickels I dug today ( starting to really learn what shallow iron bits and nails sound like...dug a lot less surface trash today) I got this 14k earring. It sounded off loud...about 8 inches down.

I am really liking this machine a lot.

It's nice to see the shine of gold on a sunny day !

Nice find!

Do the shallow iron bits give a double hit? I am noticing the Sand Shark gives a double peak on the sound off on hair pins and nails. The really tiney pieces of iron it doesn't though.

Some shallow iron bits and nails do doiuble hit. The key is to sweep at the target from all angles. What I do now for all targets is circle them. The iron either double hits or has a very wide sound at some point. Also, the shallow targets are much more pronounced.

I am still digging some iron and wire bunched up, but the shallow stuff is starting to become easier to recognize. Still not 100 percent confident that it's always iron, but I do have my hunting partner on occasion check the signal with his Excal and most all the time he says he is nulling or it's junk. Also, a couple of times I follow behind him and get the hits on iron that I know he did not dig due to the Excals nulling, and listen to them. Most all the time they are the shallow iron targets that double hit or sound loud/wide. This way I can learn to listen to what they sound like. My ear is starting to become in tune as to what the machine is processing.

Whats interesting is that I can now use the sides of the coil to determine exactly where the target is starting to sound off. The iron and longer targets really do start and stop signalling a lot longer than the rounder targets. I hope that makes sense. And I am still digging lots of deep bottle caps. Can't tell them apart from the coins.

Still learning but I do like the GQ a lot.

Thanks for the details! Even with the double hits on iron pieces with the Sand Shark I am still digging them. Need more time to convince myself about the targets.
Heading home in a little bit. If we get home early enough I'll post some pictures tonight. Got a pretty little 10K piece with the Tejon in the dry sand.
Cheers,
