hey i have a question for ya. i was reading in 1 of your post that u said that a windy day can affect a metal detectors performance. now what id like 2 know is how is that possible? ive never heard of that. not sayin that your full of it, id just like 2 know how that works. 2nd i seem 2 b catching on 2 this MD thing w/ my quattro. b4 if u remember i had all kinds of problems w/ it, even thought it was broke. BUT 2 things i did 2 remedy this was 1st i reset the quattro (dont know if that had anything 2 do w/ it or not) 2nd i put on my 5" disk and keep sens at 9. now what this did 4 me i noticed was cut out alot of the junk under the coil, which i knew. ALAS its not so confusing anymore. 6 years ive had this thing and just NOW its workin like it should 4 me. think i mite b on 2 something here. my 11" platypus is 2 big and i get 2 many signals that confuse me and i cant catch on and learn it.so there u have it. c ya

Hello Redsummit, first of all, I can't remember what I said about the wind affecting the Quattro's performance, I think I just stated that I found this to be the case on occasion. The times it did seem to have an affect was when i was out detecting on a windy day where storms where approaching and it looked like there was going to be a down pour. I'm thinking of a beach this once happened where i was detecting for old pre-decimal coins after severe storms exposed the deeper layer. It was very windy, and I got the impression that maybe a climate change or something to that effect, was making the Quattro a little irratic in behaviour. Why, I don't know, but it's happened a few times. I've sometimes wondered if something in the air, ions, or something, was interferring with the detectors capabilities. Maybe someone out there might have a logical explanation for why this might occur.
As for the pltyput coil, I've never used one on the Quattro. You might want to ask someone who has. All I can say is, the bigger the coil, the trashier the ground, the harder to separate the signals as some due to nulling over of using discrimination, or cross signalling from one target to the other. It's even worse in highly mineralised ground.

Hey Redsumit,
I have had great luck with my Quattro since I put on my 5" coil. Last weekend was the best yet. I found 6 silver coins in one weekend in three sites. war nickel, merc dime, roosie, 2 washingtons, and a 45 walking liberty half. I keep my sensitivity with the 5" between 14 and 16. I will try going down further now. I am getting coins down to 10" to 12" at 14 and 15 though. Still a small amount of falsing. Often hunt by cross saving all metal to coin or coin and jewelry. Gives me the tones I'm used to with all metal so I can tell when I'm hitting heavy iron. I do reject -9 and -10 if I get in an area with too much trash.

Good Luck,
Mark

Hi Golden, how are you doing? I just had to try and throw my 2 cents in here. I'm wondering if there might have been a change in the atmosphere, (electroly) like as if there might be possible lightning and stuff. Knowing how sensitive the Quatro is to any kind of electrical interference, I just was wondering about that. They say that if your somehwere where the storm clouds are brewing and your hair starts to stand on end, you better watch out, because the static electricity induced could mean there might be a possibility of lightning about ready to strike. I may be off base on this but that's what I'm thinking. Marc.
