GOLDEN uMAX'S FINALY ARRIVE

Just got my golden umax's that I found used, they came and were in new condition. Got one for the wife and I, must say I agree with 53 silver, if I knew what a good machine they are I would have bought one years ago. What stopped me was the none adjustable ground balance. Took it out in my coin garden and was surprised at the depth I was hitting everything at 6 inches which you would expect, but was hitting some of my coins at 9 inches, which kind of blow my away , my ground is fairly low mineralized, but still. Took it over to my brothers house which predates civil war and some of worst iron infested ground that I ever hunted. Left the stock coil on it, to get a good feel for the detector. The first thing I noticed was the fast recovery that it has. It was able in a single swing to hit all the iron in that pass which is about 3 to 5 hits and recover and voice all of them and anything else that may be by . I was running min disc, but still had the tones so it was like the cortes running in all metal and still giving me all the information on the Vdi. I do believe run in Min disc with it super tuned is deeper than in the all metal mode. It's gonna take many hours of exhausting field research to come to a final conclusion, but all in the name of science. My wife had her vaquero, and ends up picking a indian head penny 1893 in great shape and I went home empty handed.

hay i will vouch for that i owned a golden and it did well , you would not believe how beat up the machine was and it still worked .

I been thinking about trying one for a long time and when I finally decide to buy a new one, they are not available. One can still get one on ebay but be prepared to pay almost what they cost brand new for one in good shape. .Going to go out again today, but this time with the 5.75 coil

I have brand new in the factory sealed box umax that I am contemplating selling and buying a cortes, you have them both-which do you prefer? Do your umax's have the new or old tones?

The Golden's I have one has new tones and the other old. I like the new tones better. which one do I like better, it depends on ground conditions and type of hunting I am doing. If hunting in a park with lots of foil and pull tabs I would go with the golden. But if ground is a little difficult than the Cortes, It has the VDI and some tonal capabilities . but the thing I like about the Cortes the most is the fact that you can run it in all metal and still have your VDI. I like both. I think the Cortes is one of my favorite detectors to use, but the golden is catching up. So to answer your question if possible get both each has its merits. If not then the Cortes is a little more versatile detector.

The Golden and Cortes combo is hard to beat. I used that setup for nearly a year, way back when.
