Golden Umax w/12x10 coil

Can anyone give me some insight as to what I can expect with this combination?

I currently have a Silver, but have a Golden on layaway and this 12X10 coil will fit either of them. From what I have read about the Golden, the stock coil does a fine job, but I wanted something to cover a litte more area faster.

Not quite so concerned about digging shoulder deep holes, so if I can accurately locate up to 6 inches or so when I am in the local parks, then that is plenty for me. My wife and son will be fighting over the Silver soon, and I'll be learning the Golden so I was just wondering if anyone out there might have some time behind the wheel with this combination. Thanks

well i tried it a couple of years back and i did'nt have very good results, on mine it changed the tones and wasn't sure on what i was digging half of the time and very little on increase of depth but who knows you might have better luck than i did, but the coil i did have luck with on the golden was the stock coil off the silver umax and i actually increased depth slightly and worked superb, thats my 2 cents worth and hope you have great hunts!

I've read several posts where Mike Hillis uses the cleansweep coil with good success. That's 18" of scanning!

John,
The 12 x 10 coil will cover more area, but the stock coil is best for the Golden. I owned a Golden umax a few years back and loved it but decided to trade it for an eldorado & have kicked myself over & over for making the change. I personally liked the 7" concentric or 4" coils on the Golden to pick through our trashy areas here in Texas. Never really thought of using the 12 x 10 on it really but it will cover more area if that's what you're after (not sure if it will increase the depth of the Golden)......The 12 x 10 is really better suited for use with a manual ground balanced machine like the bandido II (if you're looking for depth).
