i have a golden umax, with the original tone settings and i would like to change it to the new settings, but,i live in australia.i have tried to contact tesoro in america to find out how it's done, short of sending it over there.freight both ways and fifty dollars.if i could get the information from them on how it's done,i'd gladly send them the fifty dollars, but they won't talk to me.obviously whats made in america stays in america.blowfly

Hi Blowfly! What do you mean when you say "but they wont talk to me"...have you spoken to Paul about it, or have you asked him to speak to Tesoro about it. I had an early Golden umax, and thought the tones fitted in pretty well with our coinage...as well as, and better than some other machines. HH

Well I'm sure they spent a lot of time and research on this upgrade. And I can't say I blame them for not passing it around. Just send it in, Send the control box & cable & coil. Thats a pretty small box to ship. They can tune up and match the coil at the same time. If you talk real nice they may even reduce the charge on the tone change because of the shipping you have to pay, It never hurts to ask. Jay

thanks one and all for your responces, decided not to go ahead with changing tones.as one member on this site said,it isn't really worth it.blowfly

Blowfly,
I apologize for the problems you are having with Tesoro. I personally have not recieved a call or email from you. If you email me, I will tell you how to change the tone and how much it will cost.

I sure wish someone would do a youtube video demoing a Golden with the old tones and new tones. There's really no video in depth explaining exactly how the Golden works. Maybe 53silver would do video explaining how the Golden works? He did a super video explaining exactly how the Vaquero works. That man sold some Vaquero detectors with his videos. It would behoove Tesoro to send 53silver a Golden uMax for him to do a video for it.

I second that! His Vaq videos are awesome. I've watched them over and and over. Send this guy all the current tesoro models!

I have to wonder about this whole mutlitone issue. Does it really benefit you?

If you are seeking jewlery, it can have either a high/low tone or a low/high tone depending on what the gold was mixed with a manufacture.

Regardless of which tone you get, if you don't dig, you run the risk of missing the gold.

For me, once I've set my discrimination, thats it. I dig every solid signal after that.

So I guess I need an education here. How have the multi tones helped you?

Good question Smudge, I've wondered about that myself.-----I guess it seperates (widens) out the mid-tones a little--to make the mid-tones easier to distinquish/seperate.---But aren't you digging those tones anyway? (to get the gold).-------On the high tones---isn't a high tone just that--all the same high tone for the copper penny, & all clad and silver coinage?----So the more tone "spread" is in the mid tones?-----Just trying to figure out what the real benefit is there.------I need an education in this to Smudge!------------Del

the tones make it more fun
& give you more info on the target before u dig :detecting:

The big deal to me about the Tesoro Golden is not its tones, but its ability to be able to notch out pull tabs, stinky rotten worthless zinc pennies and screw caps and still be able to detect gold jewelry, clad coins and silver:).
