Golden uMax question

Hi, I have a Golden uMax and when I put it in the narrow notch mode with disc set at minimum and notch width at 12 o clock ....it picks up all my coins except a copper penny. The zinc comes in strong but nothing on a copper. Is this normal for the notch mode or is something wrong with the detector. If anyone knows please tell me. Thanks. RDF.

Copper pennies have almost the exact VDI number as dimes, and I mean there's only a hairs difference with dimes being just slightly above by maybe 1 digit. That notch must be razor sharp for it to disc out copper pennies but not dimes.
