I see both machines cost the same., so which is the better machine? anybody own both?would like some feedback would be used here in red clay VA soil thanks

On difficult ground, the Vaq is the best choice. It's also using ED180 disc which is the latest/greatest from Tesoro.

Actually, the disc on the Vaq is more like 165, not 180.
Still seems to work fine for me, even in trashy areas, and that manual GB is a must have for bad soil.

I have both and would hate to have to pick between the two of them. The Tesoro Golden sure is a lot of fun. It's great for finding gold jewelry and coin shooting. I just love the notch feature and how it notches out zinc pennies, screw caps and pull tabs and still be able to sound off on gold in the foil and nickel range while hitting hard on dimes, quarters etc. On the other hand, the Tesoro Vaquero is really deep and great for old silver coins and relic hunting. Plus it has a ground balance if needed for soils with high mineralization.

Get both!

Woodchuck, I just got a new Vaquero today and took it out on its maiden hunt this afternoon. It is a deep hitter on targets for sure and very sensitive to tiny objects. I'm sure the Golden is a great detector also, but for the same money I think the Vaquero would be the better choice because it has
ground balance where the Golden is preset. This could be a factor if you are in bad ground or want to swap coils on the Golden. You might have to send the Golden to the factory to have them balance the extra coils to your detector or risk less than top performance out of the detector.
You can't go wrong with either detector, but depending on where you hunt one might serve you better than the other. happy hunting........
