Golden uMax or DeLeon?

Good afternoon, New guy here, I am getting back into the metal detecting hobby, and need some advice please. --- I tried detecting a few years ago, and never really found anything of value, and very few silver coins. I believe that this was my fault, in not taking the time to learn my detectors. - I had quite a few, from the Silver uMax, some Garrett's, a Cortes, and ended up primarily using a Teknetics T2, and a Minelab 705. ------ I have been doing a lot of research, and am thinking that I would like A Tesoro Golden uMax, or perhaps a Deleon. --- I am mainly concerned in finding gold jewelry, such as rings, necklaces, and bracelets, as well as silver coins. --- I like the manual notch adjustment on the Golden uMax, but also tend to lean toward a TID unit. I would appreciate any information you can share, as I really only want to buy 1 detector. ----If you feel there is a better unit for the type of hunting I want to do, please feel free to advise. Thanks, --- BD1024

Thats what I mostly hunt for is jewelry. You probably know jewelry, depending on size, composition and so on can run anywhere from small iron up to about zinc penny(gold jewelry) and all the way up to the top if your after silver rings. You can notch out tabs or other stuff like foil but your notching out where some jewelry falls.
I have a used Deleon coming but I gotta tell you that 705 you had is a nice machine too. Ive never used a Golden but it seems like all the Tesoros do well on smaller gold and of course any machine will hit the larger stuff, especially rings.
How did you like that Cortes? Probably very close in performance to the Deleon.

I to prefer a TID machine but also like tones which is the reason I sold my DeLeon. However if your going after mainly gold your going to have to set your discrimination around the foil level and dig everything so a single tone or a multi tone like the Golden might work better for you and be a little cheaper. I've never owned one but if you go back thru past posts I think you'll find that a bunch of people on this forum are going to suggest the Comparde for gold hunting really simple to use and supposed to be killer on small gold. I'm sure others will chime in but hope this helps a bit. HH and good luck with whichever detector you decide on.

The Golden uMax would be good for looking for newer coins in parks but on average it's a pretty shallow machine. The Deleon will work good in some areas but not in others as it has a fixed ground balance. I had a Cortes and it's fixed gb was way off for my area and the target id was useless, just bounced around and was never a steady number on a target accept for in air tests. Just my two cents. -Jay

Thanks for the reply. I liked the Cortes, but never found much with it. Probably due to my lack of understanding the unit. Really liked the light weight. Thanks
