Golden Umax on beach?

Hello to all-
Has anyone ever tried a Golden Umax on a saltwater beach (wet sand)? I assume that with having a preset GB, one might have to greatly reduce sensitivity and thus lose a lot of depth, so it is probably not good for the beach. Are my assumptions correct? I see that the Eldorado has manual GB, but as I understand it, unfortunately does not have multi tone ID - Is that correct?
Thanks,
-Matt

Matt,
Let me offer up my opinions to your post:
"Has anyone ever tried a Golden Umax on a saltwater beach (wet sand)?"... Yes. I have used it in both a salt water beach environment and freshwater beach conditions. Some with mellow ground and some with very mineralized conditions.
"I assume that with having a preset GB, one might have to greatly reduce sensitivity and thus lose a lot of depth, so it is probably not good for the beach. Are my assumptions correct?".... No, not necessarily. Generally, hunting a salt water beach only requires that you have a functional GB setting. If a unit is factory preset to just handle the negative ground minerals (iron) that might be present, then a preset model could work as well or better than a manually ground balanced unit. I have often seen very poor performance by people hunting with a manually adjusted model because they have mis-adjusted the GB control!
Reducing the sensitivity isn't always necessary and doesn't always help.
"I see that the Eldorado has manual GB, ..".... Yes, and that is only a help to make sure there is an adequate, functional GB for the coil in use.
"... but as I understand it, unfortunately does not have multi tone ID - Is that correct?".... I would say yes, and no.
YES, the Eldorado does not have the multi-tone ID like the Golden
