golden umax mods

Hey there Tesoro users is there any mods out there to get the golden to go deeper, because i've fallen in love with this machine, just need to make it go deeper thats all

I am not aware of any mods. but if the ground balance is too positive or too negative for your ground you can open up the faceplate and adjust the ground adjusting pot. If you decide to change the ground balance setting don't tell anyone, I have adjusted the g.b. settings on a few Tesoro's of my own and you would of swore that I commited a crime. I guess some folks get a little jervous & nerky  when it comes to doing surgery on a Tesoro. Steve.

cripe you would think that then it would be a treasonist act then for all mods going on then with cibola and vaquero, well anyways there skiwhiz I really like this golden my ground has finally let me dig in the 6 to 7" range and within those two days just in my yard i've found (2) silver dimes, and 10 wheat pennies and maybe dug 2 or 3 pull tabs plus I use the 8" brown coil that came with my silver, and the combo seems to work great, as far as the 9 x 8 "coil is concerned i'm not sure if that i'm all that struck on it i don't seem to have very good luck with them on any of my machines, who knows maybe it's just me, if there's any other machines out there that have four tones and go deep let me know, thanks!

There's a couple of things I did to my Golden that added a little more depth in my mild ground, but they resulted in a little more noise. Setting the ground balance slightly negative instead of slightly positive added about an inch, but it made some hot rocks respond that won't respond with a neutral or slightly positive balance. Easy to tell them though as they gave an odd sounding high tone on both sides of the rock, and the Golden nulls on them in all metal mode. Setting the threshold to maximum doesn't actually add any depth, but it makes the almost inaudible signals a lot louder and, in most cases, results in more deep targets being recovered. Aggravating when going to all metal mode, but in the past I added a small on/off toggle switch to a couple of detectors (not the Golden) that allowed maxing the threshold in disc mode and toggling back back to normal before pinpointing. I can also hear deeper targets using my Timberwolf Lobo headphones with the limiter switched on. The limiter attenuates loud signals, and reduces the modulation, but amplifies weak signals. They allow me to hear "whispers" that I wouldn't hear without them, but I don't hear as well as I once did so the headphones might not help anyone with good hearing. Another thing that you probably already know, the Golden disc mode reads downscale on deeper targets. By reading downscale a deep coin can drop a tone or more down from the tone it would normally give, so a deep coin can give a response that's a mix of it's normal tone and the next lower tone or drop to the next lower tone or maybe even lower.

As for another detector with tones, I checked one out about this time last year that I actually like better than the Golden. It has the option of nine, two or one tones, more depth than the Golden and is only a few ounces heavier, but I couldn't justify buying one as I wouldn't use it any more than I do the Golden. As far as I know Mr Bill is the only dealer who has them in stock, if he still has any. Read about it HERE. As much as I like the Golden I don't use it enough to justify keeping, but my wife and daughter make me keep it because it's the only detector I have my 9 year old grandson can use. By the way, I don't like the 9X8 standard coil either, that's why I have a "Super 7" X2 coil on mine:).

Not to cut in on your post, but for any of you's that don't like the 9X8 coil and want to get rid of it give me a shout I am looking to buy one. I have a Bandito II uMax on its way to me that I would love to have the 9X8 coil to try on. Any one has one they let go give me a shout sprice@premierwireless.us Thanks! Steve.

thanks JB for the info for sure, well i'm thinking about trying a fisher cz-3d it seems to have what i'm looking for, but i don't know i might just play it by hear and see what happens

Found a 9X8. Thanks!!!

The CZ's are good detectors. I owned five different CZ's at different times over a 10 year period; an original CZ -6 I had Fisher convert to a 6a (it was the deepest of the five), three CZ-5's and a 7a Pro. I found a lot of coins, an occasional nice jewelry item and quite a few CW relics with them, but all of them had a couple of snags I didn't like at all. They were prone to masking - none of them were worth a darn in even moderate trash - and the disc mode read downscale on deep targets more than any other detectors I've used. The audio and meter were about as accurate down to about 7 inches as other metered detectors, but I dug a couple of deeper silver dimes that ID'ed as low as a nickel and one that showed foil, and although it never happened to me a friend who had a couple of CZ's claimed he dug coins that showed in the iron range. I'm not trying to discourage you from getting one, I enjoyed using them, made some darn good finds with them and actually have been thinking of getting another, but I switched from the CZ's to Treasure Barons because the Barons are just as deep in my ground (Cointrax is deeper when using Deepsearch mode as is the Prohunter with the Deephunter module installed), are more sensitive to small gold jewelry and ID deeper targets much better. Plus the Barons read upscale in disc mode. They move deep targets up in tones and also on the meter on the models that have meters. I'd much rather dig an occasional deep tab that ID's as a dime than pass up a silver coin that ID's as a tab. One thing for sure though, the CZ's go a lot deeper than the Golden:).

Well thanks for the info JB now this treasure barron your talking about has tone id correct and what do they go for?

Discovery discontinued production of all Baron models a few months ago and has no plans to build any more, auxiliary coils are almost impossible to find and resale value isn't very good, so although I think they're some of the best performing detectors available you'd probably be better served to look at going with a detector that's still being made. Maybe a Fisher F5 or F70 as they have a lot of good features, including multi-tone audio. I've been giving some serious thought to buying an F5, but already have 8 detectors and mostly only use one of them.

Well there JB probably i would stay out of the F series, i don't know this for sure but they don't look very rugged built to me at all
