Golden uMax comes through again.

Hi everyone and I just wanted to show a find that my Golden uMax detected a full 12" deep. It is not worth much of anything, just one of those cheap solid copper Indian bracelets with a turquoise stone maybe. Does anyone know if I try to reshape it if it will break ? Ok God Bless all and happy hunting !

Thats a really cool find, how loud was that signal? I just got a Golden uMax and really love it.The tones are great!:tesoro: Do you have any tips for gold ring hunting. I found that I can disc out alot of p.tabs and some sqaure tabs and still get thin gold rings, although this is experimenting w/my wifes rings, havent found any yet. But, when I put the coil over a medium band it discs it out. What tips do you have?
Thanks, Aaron

Hi Aaron and great to meet you. The copper bracelet was up in the corner where some cement steps met with the sidewalk. I was getting a mixed type of signal and after 3 pulltabs the bracelet screamed out on the Golden! So I started digging in earnest and finally felt the item with the digger. Well out came the bracelet at my total surprise and I measured the depth of the hole and was exactly 12". Probably more luck than anything Aaron haha ! As far as gold rings go try using the narrow notch function to knock out pulltabs and see if you can get it set to where it will accept gold rings and no pulltabs. Or go all metal. I gotta tell ya Aaron you won't regret getting the Golden and they go a lot deeper than you would think. I love the tones on this instrument ! I am not really looking for rings but I will try notching on mine also and see what I come up with. I don't mind saying some may think Tesoro is getting behind the competition but I think they make some of the best detectors around to this day ! Let me know how you do with yours Aaron. So God Bless ya and thanks for the comment Aaron.

Hi John, good to meet you too. I have seen your name alot on this forum. You are right about the narrow notch. I didnt mention it, but I set it on narrow notch, put the disc on the minimum point marker, then I set the notch window dial at about 11:eek:o o'clock. At those settings I have tested it to accept thin gold and reject most pulltabs.
You know, what is really funny, I just bought a Cortes a couple months ago, and I like this uMax a whole lot better. Being able to search with the tones constantly on is great. I find it even easier to pinpoint with too. This is such a great little machine, so light and alot of features, I wish more people would talk about it. I think it is greatly under rated because it may not go quite as deep as the Tejon, Vaquero or Cibola. But who cares, its just plain fun to use! I am glad Mike Hillis talked me into getting one.
Take care,
Aaron

If that stone is good quality turquoise, you got yourself one nice little find there. You shouldn't have any trouble straightening it out if you go slow and use something to mold it over, like a piece of PVC pipe or a can of beans, something round.

Congrats on a great find!

The Golden-u rocks :super:

Hey Aaron and yes that is about where I usually set the control is 11 O'Clock. I will agree with you and I don't know why the Golden has been forgotten. I tell ya Aaron I use it most of the time and it is so light ! Ok I will CU later Aaron and if you need anything give a yell ! God Bless.

I haven't used my Golden in a long time. I use to use it with the 12" x 10" Concentric coil on the dry sand on our California beaches when I first started detecting. It was a killer combo on the dry sand and it went pretty deep too. It was a fun detector to use and even with that big coil I could swing it all day long and not get tired.

Nice find! WTG!
