Golden uMax coil upgrade question

Just wondering what others have had for experience. I was looking at the Excelerator 15X12 butterfly SEF. The reason I want it is to cover as much area as possible in a short time. I was also considering the 5.75" concentric but I cannot see myself going that slow.

I'm wanting to try the 12X10 DD Outlaw coil, several guys on here like them, maybe they will comment.

At least in theory, the 3X18 will cover a bit more ground, but you shouldn't expect near the depth as the 12X15. On the oval/elliptical DD/widescan coils one can expect depth to around the same depth as the width of the coil and coverage equal to the length of the coil - give or take a bit. So here you're looking at a potentially pretty deep coil versus a shallow one that covers just a bit more ground.

I have both the cleansweep and the 15x12 SEF. The cleansweep is lighter and better for sites where you are just wanting to rip clad and jewelry from the top 4 inches.

The big SEF is heavier but takes you down about as far as the 9x8 coil on coin-sized objects (and a lot further on larger objects). It really makes field hunting very efficient, but I have to flag my hits because it pin points poorly. I come back with another detector when it is time to recover.

If I had to have just one, it would be the SEF. The cleansweep is fun and has its place, but the SEF goes twice as deep and you'll cover ground fairly quickly.

If your looking for depth and relic hunting. I'd say the clean sweep is not the best choice. If your hunting ballfields and soccer fields and the beach. For moden coinage them the clean sweep will do well. Though you will miss aything that has gotten deeepp.

Tough decision. Question about cleansweep. It is 3x18 in size but what is the actual detecting field size? What I mean is this: with stock 9x8 coil targets only sound off when they break the small opening in the center of the coil or just a little larger than a half dollar.

{Question about cleansweep. It is 3x18 in size but what is the actual detecting field size?} The detecting field size is 3X18 and it pin points at the front edge or rear heel, Sounds off on all 4 edges It's a DD coil. And yes it's a vacuum! Jay

That is amazing. I have 10 inch DD coil on a FBS detector and it does not pick up coins on all the edges. I wish I could test each coil without purchasing. But don't we all. LOL
