golden umax ?:ausflag:

i recently bought a golden umax from the australian tesoro agent unseen, as he operates at one end of the country and i at the other.even though i'm in the learning/struggle side, it still works okay.it wasn't til a few days ago that reading on a forum, that i realised mine is the old model with the round speaker holes, wheras the newer models have slits over the speaker.has the newer model only changed the face plate or has the internals been updated also? the cosmetics don't concern me,i just don't want to find i've been diddled with a superceded model to clear old stock.am i worrying unduly?bye for now, blowfly

Hey Blowfly - I thought you sent it back and exchanged it for a Cibola?

Hope all is well!

Steve

ps - thanks for the Cleansweep. You're right it is a lot heavier than my Cibola version, but just as efficient.

yeah steve ,your right, after a big arguement, with the missus.she pointed out if i can't handle this one i'll always be chasing rainbows.so in for a penny, here i go.it's not that bad if you take time to listen to the language.my tonal hearing is borderline and it does tell you what to and not to dig.first time out with it i found $9.30 with it.not impressive by your standards but it's a start.a day later$19.20.if theres coins in the ground and the coil passes over them it's in your pocket.yesterday$35.60 after a jimmy barnes show.i think i'm going to like this.this morning i took the vaquero with the 11"widescan to a soccer field and found$1.35.we have lottsa sports fields up here not many sport's spectators,to hot to sit in the sun.our pop.about180,000 compared to your what 1.5 million more or less.i'm thinking i'll leave the vaquero alone til i go out to the gold fields.even then i might have to step up to a minelab a sd 2200d.we'll see.bye for now, robert

I asked the same question about the models having different speakers. Jay Evans responded, saying only the plastic face plate was changed, not the internals.

The speaker faceplate is the only change that has been made to the Golden over the years. The round speaker is one of the older units. Although it could be that this unit was a new unit but just never sold until now. But if this guy sold this unit to you as a new unit I'd ask questions about it. Did you get the warranty card with it? The electronics of the Golden have not changed though if that is your main concern.

thanks jay,yes it was sitting in the shop for a while as the demo model.i shouldn't say to much as i got it at a reduced price, with all the appropiate papers.i see you have one also.i also have a vaquero with all the coils and a silver sabre with a 7"cc,which i can interchange with the golden umax.at the moment i'm going over areas that i did with the vaquero and finding a lot of missed targets.my thinking is ,it's got to be the 10khz frequency that makes the targets respond better.bye for now, blowfly,hh

hi ya beale, since getting the golden umax my vaquero has hung in the cupbourd getting dusty.i'll still use it,in certain areas where i need ground balance but,at the moment the golden is finding stuff that the vaquero missed.my thoughts is the 10khz frequency works better on coins and jewellery.this morning in a place that i thought i had cleaned out,i found two rings, one was a small gold ring with diamonds, the other a silver ring with amethyst stone plus $14.05 aud.when you use it,listen to the tones.it doesn't take long to learn them.i set mine on iron disc and dig everthing that hits hard.hopes this helps. bye for now, blowfly hh

Hi Blowfly,
As you're finding our, the Golden is a beaut machine. I had one several years ago, but traded it on a Tejon. The one you've got is new, just been sitting in the shop for a while. Only a few days ago I was speaking to the importer and asked about getting another Golden (second hand) and he told me the only one he had was a new one andthat the had sold it to a bloke in norther Qld. a short while ago. I like the tones on the Golden, and mine did well by me while I had it. Sounds as if you're enjoying yours, so good luck with it. Mine found plenty of silver (coins and jewellery). HH Sapper.

g'day sapper, yes i am enjoying the golden.it seems to me that the little bludger doesn't miss much.this morning i spent more time on my knees than walking.this morning i recovered $15.80 plus a gold crusafix about three inchs down. i'm running it in iron and digging it all and i only did a small park. i wouldn't mind sneaking into port kembla with it,but,i might stir up the locals a bit:clapping:i'll have to talk to paul knee and ask him not to sell anymore in queensland, ones enough up here.bye for now, blowfly,hh
