Golden U-max Question?

Prospector

New member
I have always been interested in the Golden U-max and would like some opinions. What kind of depth does it get, and how accurate are the tones. I am looking at this detector primarily for coins and jewerly and old home sites. Mostly to hunt parks and freshwater beaches. Thanks!

I think that a person either loves the Golden or doesn't like it at all. I do really like Tesoro's but the Golden wasn't for me. They say there are 4 tones but there are many more than that. It was just too much sound for me. I prefer the Silver uMax over the Golden any day. But there are many that love the Golden I just can't see how. Steve.

Hi Prospector

Steve is correct about the love/hate that many have for the Golden. I have a Golden,Vaquero and a Bandidito 2 (u-max). They all have there place and the Golden's place is in the back of my vehicle with a 5.75 concentric coil on it. I use it as a lunch time hunter and at any place I see that looks good when I'm driving around in my truck. I have a lot of faith in this machine and have made some pretty good finds with it. I can get about 6 -7 inches on a dime here in CA with our mild soil. It's a excellent coin and jewelry shooter and has a notch system that works pretty good. The tones are confusing and are to close together but if you use the notch (toggle back and forth) in heavy trash the tones don't really matter. You would be best to find a local dealer and have him perform a demonstration if possible.

The depth is about average for Tesoro. The tones do sometimes blend together a little in the middle. The high tone, which relates to the penny on up, is very distinctive. You can leave the discrimination set very low (better depth) & judge by the tones and therefore eliminate the "thumbing" which is required on others. Has good audio and a good VCO pinpoint. And, when required, has a usable notch system that the others do not. Should work well in the environments you mentioned as it has the Tesoro quick response & separation so long as the GB is correct for your area.

I love the Golden myself, and it can go deep. I detected and dug a small 100% copper wristband with a turquoise stone in it. After moving a dime and a couple of pulltabs out of the way I knew something else was still there. I kept going at 12" there was the Indian style wristband! Of course it was much bigger than a coin. It was the tone that helped me. My ground here is mild so that helps too. Ok everyone be good and happy hunting.
