Golden U max or Vequero

I'm ready to get another machine and narrowed it down to the Golden UMax and the Vequero..... if you could only pick one then which one would you get. I'm searchig in the woods, old homesteads, fields,, maybe dry sand for fun but that type of terrain.... also whos the best vender to buy from here or who ships the fastest..

thanks T

oh I forget what model it is but does anyone know about the cheapest tasoro model thats going for around $160.00 I think it has the 5" coil,,,, I want to get one for my wife that doesn't really want to get into knowing the machine so I was wondering if that mahine is worth it because of the price and will it still read on stuff as good or close to the others but if not maybe someone can recommend something fairly cheap for a wife that just tags along every now and then ,,, thanks for any opinons on this

Get the Vaquero for woods and field hunting. Don't get the Compadre for your wife. Spend a little more money and get her the Silver uMax. You will be glad that you did.

I agree, the Vaquero for hunting fields and woods.
Is the Compadre worth it because of the low price?
Well worth it...it is probably the biggest little secret in the MD world, but we owners know all about it and here are just a few of my finds.

The Silver is similar but a little different circuitry and one more knob to control the sensitivity which might be useful and a little easier to deal with for a total newbie.

Tajue17 if your wife is going to be hunting with you in the fields and woods, get the Silver uMax. You'll be glad that you did.:)

I would go with the Outlaw for pure versatility and options included. Tough detector to beat.

I would normally recommend the Golden/Compadre combo, but in this case, given your conditions, I have to agree with Tabman and vote for the Vaquero for you and the Silver UMax for your wife.

I know nothing about the Outlaw and cannot comment.

I have owned both, get the V for the old homesteads. If you want to coinshoot at homesites or parks and don't need lots of depth , the golden will get it done.

Okay thank you allvery much for the posts,,, based on what I read I think the Vaquero it is But Mike I looked for the outlaw previously and was thinking of that and I went to relics site and didn't see it forsale so I wasn't sure if it was being made anymore,, if anyone wants to comment on the Vaquero Vs the Outlaw please do but not sure if many folks are familiar with it.

my wife already says she doesn't want anything too complicated,, she's using a bounty hunter but a cheap plastic toy model she bought at a yardsale and trust me it finds nothing but the headache in your head that hasn't made itself known yet,, I've buried coins in 3" of soil and then couldn't pick em up so the thing is trash.. because you guys mentioned it I'll have to check out the silver max, if it has only one more knob that might work for her..

also nobody had an opinion on who to buy from,, I want to buy from someone who gets it here fast,, I forget who I ordered from before so I was wondering if theres any opinions on Relics sales service, I really don't like dealing thru Paypal and would rather a store I can call and talk to a person and make my order that way????

I sent you a PM

I have 5 detectors including the Vaquero and some of thte others have tone and/or visual ID.
When I go searching around old homesites in the middle of nowhere, the Vaquero is my go to detector.. don't need no ID
for this type of hunting in my opinion as you don't know what may be around these old sites anyway.... get the Vaquero and the Silver for your wife... very good machine.

I think after alot of research and talking to a few people on the phone (thanks for the PM's everyone) I've settled on the Outlaw for me and if I can get my wife to say yes to a Tesoro then the silver U Max for her.. shes only doing this for fun and said she wants something she can see the screen and it tells her how deep and blah blah blah.. but if she insists on this other model called a F2 then I'll take advantage of the extra stuff like the pointer and headphones for myself. but before I do that I want her to check out some silver umax vids and Hear the machine and see folks using it.

as for the outlaw, I spoke to a guy named Rusty and after a long talk and trying to decide on the vequero and outlaw, for the extra hundred bucks and getting 3 coils, its a more user friendly machine and goes deeper I think by 1 1./2 to 2" it creeped out of my budget a bit but I think its worth it!

I'm still nervous about learning to use it right,, my biggest thing I asked was I didn't want to buy an outlaw or vaquero and find I had more fun using my wifes silver umax, I don't want to be messing with knobs all the time or missing stuff because I have something adjusted wrong only because I don't know what its for.. so if I end up not liking the outlaw I'll offer it for trade for a vaquero.

I live in a 100 year old house a mile from Plymouth Rock, my back yard is abiding conservation land with old grown in roads and old cedar fence posts all out in the woods, I also know of 5 old foundations way out in the woods and another spot where there is a big stone fireplace and lower section of the chimney all by itself out in the woods with trees that must be at least 75years old growning 3' in front of the fireplace,,,, the silly machine I have now recently failed my burried coin and ring test not even reading on stuff 2" deep I wasted so much time with this ,, I'm dying to get out there with a good machine.

The Outlaw and the Vaq are similar so if you like one you will like the other.
Once you set the Tesoros, you shouldn't have to fiddle much so don't worry about that.
Maybe check the ground balance from time to time but this is fast, easy, and something you will want to do.

I also have the F2 and got pretty good with it and it is much fun swinging both my Tesoros and the F2 with the screen, and I use them all.
I would not give up any of my detectors.

As far as a beginning detector with a screen, the F2 has not only icons but VDI numbers, fantastic target separation and fast recovery speed.
With the extra coils in most of the packages, there is no better deal.

The Silver...well, that is a Tesoro too so you can't go wrong with that!

I think you made a great choice. I have an Outlaw comming on monday and had the same dilema as you. I have owned Tesoro's tho in the past and love them..to many people rely on VID's and I think you miss targets with keeping that in mind. I was sold on the Outlaw based on Mike's (53silver) vid's and great reviews. I dont think it gets as much depth as the V but loosing a inch wont break me but having 2 extra coils will only help me.

As for your wife, best choice by far is the silver umax or the F2. I have had both of them..wife had the silver loved it but now swings the 705 and I cant get it back from her..light and Huge display..easy to read.

Good luck my friend and HH,
MIKE

okay thanks again everyone,, Relic don't show the outlaw in stock but I'll keep checking, maybe colonial? .

Electric car guy her from Plymouth Michigan. Used to be big on the judge 2 until I found the Tesoro. Even the cheaper model went deeper, but the judge 2 is the fastest machine I have ever seen . May be that's because I have used it for so long.
Some time when I haven't use it for a while . It would tak the first 2 hours befor I would become one with the machine . While listening to everything in the ground continuously sounding off and searching for just the right sound ,and a fine pinpointed. I just ordered the golden umax. After hear some of the lattes blogs.
It seems to be a machine one could listen to and I hear it really talks. Hope to tell you about it soon.
