golden series

Ok guys ya'll killing me with the Goldens. gonna get me tossed outta the house. I see wonderful things posted and great remarks. my question-- is the Golden Umax, 10khz, that much superior over the Goden Sabre and Golden Sabre II at 12 khz the Golden Sabre Plus at 15khz? i might can afford a used unit, and am used to the weight of an original Eldorado. i prefer an tank unit so to speak and all of mine are under shaft, another personal prefference. would an older Golden be a good choice for lots with high trash, and if so, which would be the best unit? i live in Georgia with varied soils in an area where the coastal plains meet the piedmont, hence a soil change. I know its opinionated, and all reasons will be pondered to great extent. my main culprit is aluminum tabs, double holes. screw caps we have to live with. i have noticed certain caps really blast away on my Silver Sabre plus, while a comparable size, but different metal makeup maybe dont. so notch just for most common tabs and narrow at that. i have never used notch but once on another oldie brand of a unit that an idiot with a screwdriver went into. it was not working properly at all in any mode. so it will be a learning experience. i guess how does the khz range affect the notch? does that make sense?

I have never used the detectors you've described, so I can;t comment.

But I think I may know why the Golden uMax is getting so much coverage right now: the weather.

When its cool or moist, we tend to run with deep and dig detectors with our discrimination set low.

But in this heat, forget it.

In this heat, I want to cherry pick my targets.

And the Golden is one of the best cherry pickers out there.

Hi dd57 - The Golden is an awesome detector. I did not buy one for a couple years because I thought the unit was a bit confusing, boy was I wrong. I posted a couple videos on it a few weeks ago if you'd like to check them out, it might help with your decision. Here are the links.

The ultimate cherry picker by far , it just a great machine that's all I can say! Hank

The Golden series will still get Nickels and cut out almost all the tabs. The figure 8 tabs can be cut on my old Golden Saber but I lose a lot of depth doing it. The old style big tabs are easy to cut while still getting all the coins.

If I was going to buy an older one, I'd get the Golden Sabre Plus or the Goldne Sabre II as they have 2 tones instead of the Mono tone Golden Sabre.
Actually the plus and II have more than one tone. They have a mixed tone depending on where you set the notch knob when not using the notch.
The old Royal Sabre has the same type set up also, but their scarce as hen's teeth.
Love the older Tesoro's

thanks guys. my guru just bought a Royal in minty condition. we have yet been able to use it. work weather all the bad things that interfere with hunting! lol! i will try his out then make a decision on NOTCH!

I don't get it...No depth meter...No pinpoint button.....Where is the justification?
Next thing you know there will be manufacturers making detectors with a display that cost $1,000.00 and more and claiming that their displays are accurate  Beep & dig :tesoro::thumbup:.

I think a BETTER TEST would be to line up all the old style zip tabs, pull rings, square tabs, new tabs, foil trash, some bottlecaps, and various types of gold rings, and THEN LET's hear the difference.
If there is that much a varied audio then....Then I want one too!
