Golden Sabre II

Digging Fool

New member
I can't seem to find out much about this older model. I just got one, and except for a broken headphone jack, it seems to be in good shape. I am sending it in to get that fixed, and get the unit checked-out. I believe that this will be a fun machine to use. Does it have multi-tones? I've wanted a Golden umax for a long time, but hope this one will be "close enough". Couldn't beat the price, even though it was over an hour away. Any info on this model would really be appreciated! Thanks.

I can answer what ever questions you have. I have one and in some ways it may be better than the Golden Umax. It does have multitones that are controlled by the Adjustble Notch. Make sure when you set up that the Switch is in the "Reject" mode to reject the Notch. You can also set it to accept the Notch. The Sabre only has two tones and they are above the Notch and below Notch. Hi and low You will not hear the Low tone if you have your Discrimate set too high. I set mine on about 5. In any event set it to hit good on Nickels. It will give you a High tone on Zincs. I have a Brown Donut Coil on mine and some say that is the best all round Coil Tesoro makes. Do a search here on my posts and find the Fair Grounds. I found a 5 lb Coffee Can full of coins on one property and alot were with the Golden Saber II. You will have to set the Discriminate close to the Notch. I can Email you an Owners manual if you need it. Hit me at dkrumnow@hotmail.com

I have had a Golden Sabre II since they came out in 1993 and and I have used a Golden umax that belongs to my mother since 2004.I do not understand why you would want to run your disc.and your notch close to gather.you should not run it all the time in notch or you will lose depth if just want to check for pulltabs set your disc about 2 or 3 and your notch about 5 or 6 hunt with notch off then check all targets notch on if it beeps dig it.To make sure you have notch set right l flip notch to accept take a nickel and adjust notch it till you get no sound then when you flip it to reject the nickel will be loud and clear. If you want to get max depth notch 0 and off disc min.nails and foil will be gone or broken sound rings an coins will be a sweet high tone

Thanks, dadyflea for that helpful reply. I have been digging for a long time, but never used any machines that had a "notch" feature, so that's something I will have to get used to. I'm used to ground balance, disc. level, and sensitivity. I'm hoping that the GSII will be easy to learn. I am sending my unit in this week, so maybe Tesoro will send me a manual when I get the machine back. I will e-mail you if that doesn't happen. Thanks again....

dadflea I do not undersand what you are talking "you must set the Discriminate close to the Notch"and set your disc. at 5 if you set it that high you will not get many small rings or deep nickels. Are you talking about setting the notch at 5?
ringading you are right on with your settings:thumbup:

To get nickels and knock out junk this is just where I found my settings to work best.

you will not get many nickels at disc 5 if you use the notch and a disc 5 you will loose 90%of your rings why even bother with the nickels you might as-well set disc.past pulltab. The settings may work for you but not ever one I have been using my GS2 for about as long as ringading has. The settings he posted above is the way I hunt also.It will run smoother and deeper disc min notch min and off you can still thumb up your disc to check target

I don't hunt like that. I refuse to thumb Disc. My settings get me nickels and coins. I really don't care much for depth either. I use my GS to remove the top layer of coins then hunt the deep stuff with my Cortes.

 Go to the Tesoro website, click on "Manuals" then scroll down to the bottom and find "Golden Sabre II" and you can read the manual online . :beers:

Nice older Tesoro that really likes gold rings and has audio variances not found in newer models...
Thanks! Never had a Tesoro that I didn't like. My unit is on the way home, and may be there today. Looking forward to trying it out.

I sure like my Sabre11....but it's also the only machine I've ever owned. It's a coin shootin SOB!!!!! Mine got me another Merc dime today to add to the collection........

Well, I got it and tried it out in the yard. Works great! Rusty is the one who fixed it, so I know that it will be a fine machine.
