G'day Xterra users,

Just got back from a 6.45 - 10am hunt near the CBD .
I used the 5x10" HF DD and as I was after shallow targets in nicely cared for lawns Sens. was set at only 15, anything more than 2 notches was ignored.
I was lucky enough to detect $46, a USA 1c, a Turkish 5 Kurus and a fairly solid 7 gram 18ct gold ring.
All targets were popped out with the screwdriver.
With 2 gold rings found within the past fortnight, I am quite happy.
Good detecting to all.

ps...the ring is marked 18ct JCM 7001
Does anyone know what the JCM 7001 means ? is it a makers signature ?

Hi all,

Way to go Terra, great finds mate. I must have a go at coin hunting one day..................were you in one of the C/T pattens?

By the way I'm in Alice Springs.

Regards to all

:ausflag: Jim.

Gday Jim,

thanks mate.
C/T, Pattern 3 - with modifications....to accept only 20c, 50c, $1 & $2 plus a couple of others for silver prec dec's and gold rings.
I reckon there could be some good coin hunting at The Alice - lots of tourists go there.
I suppose you mostly gold prospect do you ?
Happy swinging jim.

That's quite a nice hourly rate Terra. That's what I like about city hunting. There are a lot of juicy spots that deliver. All you've got to do, is get your coil over them.:detecting: Thought I was going to get a shot at Syney over Easter, but while the rest of the family went, I got stuck at home. Had a couple of real hot spots lined up too.:happy:
Mick Evans,.

Congrats on the great finds! The gold ring is very nice. Man you guys finding almost $50.00 in a hunt!! That is like a month for me, Beale.

That was a lucrative hunt. $46 in coins is great! I do not know what JCM 7001 means even after I Googled it. Could it be a (registration)licence plate number of a persons car-vehicle, a drivers licence number, tax file number, social insurance number, or a jewelers number(like you said, a makers signature)?

But a 7 gram, 18ct gold ring. If 24ct is 100%, then 18ct is 75%. 31.1 grams is about $1,240 AUD, then 7 grams is $279 x .75 = so about $209 AUD worth of gold in that ring.

Yes, the 5x10" and a screwdriver to pop in nice lawns, not to damage them. I use a DetectorPro Pistol Probe to pinpoint with my X-70, and it is dead on accuracy and deep, I am very happy with it(the only complaint is the handle is a little bulky-big), I will never hunt without a pinpointer again(some others use the Garrett Pro-Pointer). Also it is best to use a sturdy wash cloth or thicker handkerchief(a thick small cloth about 10" x 10" or 12" x 12" that will self support), or a very thin flexible cutting board to sort out the dirt(or plug) on, then to funnel back in the hole, to make a neat job on the grass.

Good hunting, keep it up!

Hi all,

Terra I do a lot of nugget hunting with a SD2200..................I've done well and found my fair share! I'm delighted with with the new challenge of nugget hunting with the x terra, and not feeling like a pack horse every time I go out.

I'm going to have a crack at coin hunting this weekend, at the local show ground!

Regards to all,

:ausflag:Jim

David....
A friend has a Pistol Probe and is very successful and super happy with it , it kills my Garrett pro pointer for depth.
Another had one with his Etrac and it set the Etrac off (interference) he said and sold it for an inline probe.

I dont normally bring up any soil to speak of when getting my coins out.
I do have a pair of very long nose pliers which reach way down once the coin is located and the screwdriver probe is touching it.
The nose part of the pliers is about 6" long plus the 4" handle...they are great once you turn the coin on edge slightly and you get the hang of it.
A friend cuts tiny little plugs about 1" round and uses a rubber backed bar mat .
he was good enough to give me one for the odd times when I may cut a plug in grass that plugs are ok to cut.

Jim,
Good luck with the Xterra for gold and coins.
We would love to see some of your finds and nuggets.

That is a nice pile of goodies you got there. I would like to have 2 dollar coins over here in the US.
